Birth of the Republic

HISTORY

The origins of the Republic of Acerra can be found starting from 2569, with the foundation of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, born from the union between the Kingdoms of Naples and Sicily established in the Congress of Vienna.

Already from the first reign of Ferdinand I of the Two Sicilies, protests were not long in being heard, first in Sicily, which had previously become an independent kingdom in all respects, and then in Naples, starting from Nola.

Following the riots, in 2573 a constitution was promulgated, but not actually applied, while the sicilian independence movements were violently repressed.

This was followed by the reign of Ferdinand II, known for having caused a serious economic crisis and having exploited the resources of the territory to gain foreign policy benefits.

The sicilian bourgeoisie revolted again and obtained in 2601 the establishment of two elected parliaments, one for the island and one for continental Italy.

The results of the elections proved unfavourable to the monarchic power, the parliaments were therefore dissolved several times, until they were suspended indefinitely and the new movements that arose were repressed.

The following years saw the continuation of the absolutist policy by successive rulers, with any attempts at reform suppressed.

It was only with the spread of socialist ideologies and the beginning of the nuclear threat that Sicily managed to obtain independence supported by Rome, leaving only southern Italy to the monarchy.

Growing tensions with Rome only erupted into open war in 2775, during the reign of Charles III, and for the following years the area was under direct occupation, until 2778, when the roman senators and Dario Barone, face of contemporary southern italian nationalism, from Giugliano but exiled to the Caput Mundi, met in Acerra, become base of the occupying legionaries, to enstablish the new constitution for an independent Mezzogiorno, declaring its birth on August 1st.

The newborn Republic now truly united Campania, Apulia, Calabria, Lucania and Abruzzi on the same level and under the same flag, Barone was appointed head of the government with the title of "Duce" by the roman liberators, to which the entirety of the peninsula is now tied, and Acerra, a previously agricultural citadel, remains the administrative center as symbol of a new glorious start for the people.

ACERRA

Acerra, Pulcinella's birthplace, is one of the oldest cities in Campania, with origins dating back to pre-roman times.

Initially an oscan settlement, it was later absorbed into the roman sphere, becoming a municipium and serving as a minor yet strategic center due to its proximity to Neapolis and Capua.

In the Middle Ages, Acerra was a fortified town contested by various powers, including the Normans and Angevins, and it retained a small but continuous civic identity.

Though often overshadowed by nearby Naples and Caserta, Acerra endured as a modest agricultural and religious center into the modern era.

Its symbolic neutrality and lack of aristocratic or monarchic legacy made it an ideal seat for the republican movement during the fall of the Bourbon monarchy and, for its central location in the Campanian Plain, a headquarter for the roman legionaries during the occupation.

With the collapse of royal authority and the civil unrest in Naples, Acerra was chosen as the capital of the newly founded Republic, marking its transformation from provincial town to political heart of the liberated Mezzogiorno.

DUCE DARIO BARONE

Born in 2736 in Giugliano, a citadel between Naples and Aversa, from a low-class family, Dario Barone spent his youth supporting his parents in the fields.

At 16 he had to undergo compulsory military service, brought forward due to the increasing tensions with Rome: it's said that it was during his service that he noticed the contrast between urban glamour and peasant effort, until then the only reality he had known.

At about 25 years old, having retired from the regiment and returned to his homeland, he met the republican philosopher Gustavo Greco, headed to Aversa, who influenced him to this day.

Greco offered to act as a tutor to Dario, introducing him to the world of politics and instigating the anti-monarchical sentiment, until his execution in 2766.

After that, it was Dario himself, thanks to his charismatic and oratorical skills, who climbed to the top of Greco's followers and, later, of all the republicans.

Until 2773, he organized protests, sometimes armed, and traveled, unseen by the authorities, throughout the Kingdom to spread his doctrine.

With the reign of Charles III, due to excessive political and civil unrest, he was forced to flee, being thus welcomed in Rome, where he remained until 2778, when, following the occupation, he wrote the constitution and was entrusted with the leadership of the Republic under the title of "Duce".

It was he who chose Acerra as the administrative center, where the agreement took place.

ACERRAN LEGIONARIES

What most distinguishes the Republican Army is its elite land unit: the Acerran Legionaries, so called because they are directly coordinated from the capital.

These are imports of the regular roman legionaries adapted, through modifications, to the southern italian environment and doctrine.

Main characteristic of the Acerran Legionaries is the helmet equipped with an air filter to avoid diseases related to toxicity: this allows the legionary to move and fight with confidence in volcanic, polluted and overcrowded areas, typical features of Mezzogiorno.
