The largest city and the capital of the Mushroom Union is Mushroom Port, the political, economic and cultural centre of the nation. Other important cities include Sebastos (formerly Sevastopol) and Goombatown. The country is split into 59 provinces and 2 territories.

The Mushroom Union is a federative and parliamentary republic. The head of state is President GoombaKoopa, while the Prime Minister is Astoria Barton. The legislature is the Parliament, where general elections will be held every 4 orbit years, most recently the 2108 election. Local elections will be held every 4 years between general elections.
