THE AGE OF WORTHY CONSULS
During this time, corruption was minimal, and the Senate picked only the best of the nominees to rule the nation for a 4 year term. During this age, there were 8 consuls. Although they improved the country domestically, they didn't focus on foreign relations or the military much.
Marcus Caseoh and the dictatorship
The people nominated 2 candidates, Pallus Ohio and Marcus Caseoh. The senate picked Caseoh, because they saw potential in him. And there was, at first. During his term, Caseoh improved the military greatly. However, when his term came to an end , he bribed the senate to let him stay in power for longer. This was the start of the dictatorship, the darkest period in the republic's history. Caseoh, made overconfident by his success, became a autocratic despot and a glutton. He silenced critics, jailed the popular Pallus Ohio and tried to abolish the Roman religion. Soon, a revolt led by Ohio's son Quintus Maximus overthrew Caseoh.

Pallus Ohio was made Pontifex Maximus (highest priest) for life by the people. The corrupt Senate was abolished. Since he was very old, this age only lasted for ten years. After that, he resigned.

The people wanted a parliamentary Republic where they had direct control over who was the leader. All of them voted for Quintus Maximus, the popular son of Pallus Ohio.
