Gallowglass

The Gael Gall of Scotland were famous as fierce and brave warriors and as such, they hired themselves out to serve as mercenaries. In Ireland, these mercenaries became known as Gallóglaich. It is a word compounded from three, Gall, a foreigner, óg meaning young, and laoch meaning a warrior or hero. The English called them Gallowglass. The first historical mention of the Gallowglass in Ireland is circa 1259 AD when Aedh Ó Chonchubhair a king in Connaught received a contingent of over 150 of these warriors as part of a dowry given by the king of the Hebrides. The other Irish kings started to hire the fierce Scottish warriors who spoke their language and shared similar customs. Not only would the Irish Kings use the Gallowglass in battles against the Norman English but they also used them in feuds against other Irish Kings. The Irish nobility inter-married with the Gael-gall and gave them lands and property throughout the island but particularly in Ulster. They were accepted and integrated completely with the native Irish at all levels including the nobility, especially within the northern half of the country but also in Munster and Connaught.

We are looking for recruits of an independent nature who have at least 15 cities; who are not looking for handouts and who like the challenge of doing things for themselves but can work as a team in defensive wars. We do not allow declarations of wars unless in wartime or to support an allied member under attack. You are allowed to raid inactive players who have been inactive over 4 weeks but not if they are members or applicants of an alliance unless the whole alliance is inactive.  We expect that you will have no problem defending yourself or your fellow alliance members; that you will log in regularly & will not become inactive. We give no handouts but have no taxes. Discord is not required to join.
