Jabal Shammar was once a powerful emirate in northern Arabia, ruled by the House of Al Rashid from its capital in Ha’il. Founded in 1836, it rose as a fierce rival to the House of Saud. In 1891, Jabal Shammar defeated the Saudis and took control over much of central Arabia. But in the early 20th century, the balance shifted. The Saudis regained their strength, and by 1921, the emirate was conquered and absorbed into what would become Saudi Arabia.


 

In the modern era, Iraq—the heart of the Arab world—was devastated by decades of war, dictatorship, foreign occupation, and sectarian conflict. The nation was left fractured and weakened; corruption and division spread, and countless communities were left without protection or leadership.


 

It was in this time of turmoil that Sheikh Ali al Shammari, a proud Iraqi and descendant of the Shammar tribe’s Shia branch, emerged to restore order. Drawing on the strength of the Iraqi Shammar diaspora, he united scattered clans and rekindled the identity and heritage of Jabal Shammar within Iraq.


 

With Baghdad as its capital, this renewed Jabal Shammar now stands as a symbol of resilience and unity—a modern state grounded in tribal loyalty, Iraqi identity, and steadfast resolve.
