The state of Gwynedd as held by our current standard was founded by the Warlord called Cunedda between 390 and 420 AD during the fall of the First Roman Empire. The current leader, Caerwas (literally Fort-Person but figuratively Strongholder) Danhadlwen traces her royal lineage through the various matriarchal lines of Cunedda, most notably pretender to the throne Eurgain, who had tried for the throne by proxy of her husband, against Brenin Rhun in or around 560 AD. Whilst Eurgain may have been a Christian Saint, as many of the lineage are, Danhadlwen finds herself a Pagan, citing Heledd ferch Cyndrwyn as a Pagan Deity, Sovereign Goddess of the Land, in likeness to national emblems such as Britannia, created by the Romans.

The seat of Gwynedd remains steadfast within the Eryri mountain range, and the Hawk is chosen as the national animal instead of the eagle, for the hawk has done many good deeds for the people of Gwynedd. It is a grounded and common animal, much like all Gwyneddian citizens, Danhadlwen included.

The old customs are held with care, but not without change. Modern Gwynedd governs itself through a council of voices, guided by the Caerwas, and rooted in a long-standing principle — that no ruler stands above the land, only within it. The Welsh language is preserved as the primary tongue of law, learning, and prayer, with the old poetry still recited in times of birth, mourning, and harvest.

Though the world has changed, the thread has not broken. Gwynedd endures not through might, but through memory — and through those who still remember the names of their grandmothers
