After the Battle of Endor and the Emperor's death, many Imperial officers, technologists, and nobles fled to the Unknown Planet Orbis to escape the New Republic's scrutiny, laying the groundwork for the First Order's rise. The First Order carefully concealed its military buildup within Orbis, avoiding detection by the New Republic while slowly amassing a powerful fleet and army. The First Order heavily relied on advanced technology derived from the old Empire, including new Star Destroyers and TIE fighters, and employed a highly disciplined and indoctrinated Stormtrooper army. The First Order's philosophy and military structure closely mirrored the Galactic Empire, reflecting a desire to return to the days of Imperial dominance.
