Hologram Elvis' 6 Year Anniversary

An image of Hologram Elvis' new robotic body taken at a show in the NEC.

The hologram of Elvis Presley began his residency at the NEC in Amsterdam in 2092, 4 years after completing a world tour. Since then, many improvements have been made on this phenomenon. His AI and voice have improved to be much closer to the original, and his behaviour has become less and less robotic. Dutch scientists have recently made the newest upgrade to the Hologram Elvis Experience: a body. The one thing that the hologram concerts clearly lacked over the years is human interaction, so scientists have worked hard on replicating a human body for the King.

They have succeeded in building a robotic body, but making it look an feel human. The skin is warm on touch and you can hear no weird sounds when it walks around on stage. The body is also much more resistant, having been tested extensively. The AI mind was implanted in a computer in the body's head, like a brain. It began working almost immediately, but took a bit of adjusting for the AI. It learned quickly though, and now it can safely hand out scarves and hug audience members like the real Elvis did while alive.

Elvis and the research are under constant surveillance of both military and STINVD operatives, who have a kill switch to the body that will fry the systems in case Elvis' body malfunctions or is threatened by foreign assets. The research is taking place at an undisclosed but heavily guarded facility.

Scientists will continue to research more uses for simulated bodies and AI like this, stating that they could probably be used to create workers for jobs that have staff shortages, or construction work. It is expected to take a few more years to perfect the AI + Simulated Body combination, but it will be of much use to the Dutch.

Dutch Peacekeeping Forces Deployed in Belarus

Dutch peacekeeping forces on duty in Belarus.

The government of Belarus has requested the withdrawal of the 25,000 Soviet peacekeepers from the nation. The peacekeepers were sent to Belarus in order to protect the civilians from the Tsarist government. Because of recent unrest, the government of Belarus rightfully requested Soviet (thus communist) peacekeepers leave the country. The Soviet Federation does wish to maintain a peacekeeping presence in the country, so the citizens will continue to be protected. GEDO peacekeepers were considered, but for the sake of world peace, it was decided to not go through with that.

The Dutch Republic acts as a neutral middleman between GEDO and the UEC, and for that reason the Dutch military is the best bet to maintain a presence in Belarus, without upsetting GEDO or the UEC. 12.000 soldiers have been armed and got granted vehicles and are shipping of to Belarus soon. On the date of April 14th 2098, Soviet Peacekeepers will leave the country and the Dutch Peacekeeping Unit will take over their duties.

Other Headlines:

  • Government passes Dutch Identity Act, giving subsidies to typically Dutch companies like farms, cheese factories and coffeeshops.
  • Dutch domestic arms production starts to be ramped up.
  • 2 men taken into custody suspected of a serial killing spree, suspected to be part of foreign intelligence service.
