• Jorviklund is a land carved out of Iceland’s wild, windswept landscapes—long ago, its people, the Jorviks, were deeply connected to the old ways, worshiping gods like Þórr, Freyja, and many spirits of nature. They believed the land itself was alive and sacred, and their lives revolved around respecting and honoring these forces.
• For centuries, the Jorviks lived off the sea, the land, and the forests—fishing, hunting, farming—and passing down stories of heroes and gods in sagas around fires. They built stone circles, sacred groves, and mountain shrines, places where community and faith intertwined.
• When Christianity started to spread across Iceland, the Jorviks held onto their pagan traditions fiercely. They kept their beliefs secret at times, and even blended old customs with the new faith, refusing to give up what was theirs by birthright. Over time, their resilience became part of who they are.
• In the 1800s and early 1900s, interest in their pagan roots grew again. People began to reconnect with their ancient traditions, reviving old festivals and honoring their gods openly. Today, Jorviklund celebrates its heritage proudly—festivals like Þorrablót and Midsummer are lively, joyful times when old customs come alive once more.
