Nouvelle Aquitania is a now independent and sovereign nation located in what was modern day South-Eastern France, with its current capital being the city of Bourdeux. The various peoples of the region, have united into a separate nation after a mostly peaceful political revolution due to increasingly extreme unhappiness amongst the populace with the previous ruling government and its policies. Before, leading up to, and during the revolution, the citizens of Nouvelle Aquitania were increasingly looking inward for the construction of a new national identity, as a now sovereign nation. The history of the region is extensive. Though primarily, it seems the peoples of the nation have focused on taking many cultural and historical inspirations from during the period in time where-in the Kingdom of Aquitania was still a sovereign entity. Unfortunately, the Islamic Umayyad Emirate began making incursions into Southern France around 719 A.D. to 732 A.D. and began to raid or lay siege to whatever cities they could. The king of Aquitania at the time, known as Odo The Great, eventually came to agreement with Charles Martel, king of the Franks, and began a campaign of pushing the Umayyad Emirate back out of what is modern day Southern France. This culminated in the Battle of Tours in 732 A.D. wherein the the Umayyad Emirate was soundly defeated and permanently retreated back to Iberia. As part of their agreements Aquitania became a Duchy of the Frankish Empire. After this point Aquitania, developed into a very prosperous and semi-independent kingdom under the Frankish Royal Domain. Over time the Kingdom of Aquitania also became a very important military, economic and political entity in the region. With that being said, the peoples of Nouvelle Aquitania in the modern day look to now unify their people, culture, and heritage. Having recently emerged from a successful revolution, the peoples hope to form a new national identity based on this historical common point and to prosper as an internationally recognized, sovereign nation.
