Númenor was founded at the end of the First Age of Man in the Years of the Sun. It slowly became the preeminent power in Middle-Earth. Near the end of the Second Age of Man, Númenor was ruled by lesser men with vain, narcissistic traits. The "King's Men" as they became to be known envied the immortality of the Elves and of the Valar in Valinórë. They raised an army against them, however Eru Ilúvatar intervened and sank the island, killing everyone on the island. Those that remained faithful to Eru Ilúvatar sailed to Middle-Earth before the sinking and established the Kingdoms of Gondor and Arnor, with the their leader Elendil the Tall becoming the first High King of the Dúnedain, King of Gondor & Arnor. However, the line of Kings for both Kingdoms eventually failed and the power was given over to lesser men, the Stewards. At the end of the Third Age of Man, the Kingdoms were reunited under the banner of King Elessar Telcontar, who was the First King of the Reunited Kingdom in over Three Thousand Years. After King Elessar's 120 year rule came to an end, his son Eldarion became King. It was during his reign that Eru Ilúvatar reincarnated Elros Tar-Minyatur, Numenor's first King, as Eldarion's son. Under Elros Tar-Minyatur's rule, Numenor was raised from the depths of the ocean and the Reunited Kingdoms of Númenor, Gondor, & Arnor was formed. The Reunited Kingdoms quickly became the preeminent power in Middle-Earth, along with having a bond of eternal friendship and alliance with the men of Kingdom of Rohan & the Kingdom of Dale, the dwarves of the Kingdoms of Erebor, Khazad-dûm, & the Glittering Caves, and the elves of the Woodland Realm. |
