Following a now confirmed bombing of the MOZAC pipeline which runs from Calgary to Quebec City last month, a group has now claimed responsibility.  The self-named “Anti-Oil Initiative” (AOI) posted on social media this morning stating Canadians need to take environmental action before it’s too late.  The AOI has claimed its purpose is to protect Canada’s natural resources and the global climate from corporate abuse and government negligence by any means necessary.  According to findings from the NCPS (National Canadian Police Service) the bombing was to a section of pipeline 5 kilometres outside of Winnipeg and was done with heavy explosives set with timers.  In response the NCPS has promised immediate action in apprehending involved parties with the creation of the Counter Eco-Terrorism Unit (CETU).  The unit will consist of 54 NCPS officers including one Emergency Response Team and will work closely with authorities in Alberta and Sioux Plains.

This was all discussed during a press conference at the NCPS headquarters which the Attorney General, NCPS Commissioner, and CETU Commander attended.  During which AG William Franklin was asked his opinion on the AOI and said,

“Quite frankly I think it's disgusting, Canada has and never will be a place where this kind of behavior is acceptable.  If someone is unhappy with the government or a private business they can vote with a ballot, dollar, or protest, but this kind of action isn't okay.  I promise the Canadian people the NCPS will bring this Anti-Oil Initiative to justice and they will face it.”.

When asked for comment on how this will impact MOZAC's production a company spokesperson responded, “The pipeline will have to be temporarily closed for repairs, but we are in the process of coordinating alternatives to ensure consumer demands are met.”.  The spokesperson did confirm one solution being considered by higher-ups is leasing pipeline use from other companies, with Enbridge mentioned as one choice.  The broader impact can already be seen as the stock price in oil companies has declined, most noticeable was Enbridge, MOZAC, Imperial Oil, Shell Canada, and Suncor which saw an average drop of 6.5% with MOZAC being on the worse end at 8%.  In an attempt to restore investor confidence Enbridge and Imperial Oil announced plans to hire additional security for sites.
