The Free and Sovereign State of Jalisco

After Mexico's embarrassing defeat against the United States in 1848, A period of instability hit Mexico, one that 

would be nearly, impossible to recover from. At the time, especially Jalisco saw Mexico as a young nation already 

on  its deathbed. This thought would be fueled by the rise of Porfirio Diaz during the late 1870s. Many people of 

Jalisco saw this as the death of democracy in Mexico. Especially when The Dictator would not give each Mexican 

state any autonomy.  The people of Jalisco and it's government grew tired of being ruled around by the Dictator so 

they would reach out to the other western Mexican states. Nayarit, Jalisco, Colima, and Michoacán would form a 

pact to rebel against the Mexican government and against the Dictator Porfirio, Diaz. On June 3rd 1884, the 

government of Jalisco would draw up its declaration of independence from the Mexican union. What followed months-longwas 

a bloody and long civil war that would last 5 long years. After the Mexican military faced crushing defeat after 

defeat and when Jalisco troops arrived in Mexico city after a months long battle. The Mexican Dictator would offer 

peace and recognize the breakaway states as legitimate countries. Nayarit, Jalisco, Colima, Michoacán would then unite to be one nation. The Federal Republic of Jalisco
