History: Revello, a mountainous and fertile land, was historically a deeply Christian nation, tracing its spiritual roots to early Byzantine missionary activity. For centuries, Revello maintained a blend of democratic governance and Christian cultural traditions, with a secular constitution that allowed for religious pluralism.

However, the country’s stability deteriorated after the 1990s due to increasing political corruption, economic collapse, and a devastating civil war. Amid the chaos, a radical Islamist group known as Al-Saif al-Haqq (“The Sword of Truth”) capitalized on regional instability and foreign funding to launch a full-scale insurgency.

By 2009, the democratically elected government had fallen. Al-Saif seized the capital, abolished the constitution, and declared Revello an Islamic emirate governed by strict interpretations of Sharia law.

Economy
Description: Revello’s economy, once modest but diverse, has been devastated by years of civil war, international isolation, and authoritarian mismanagement. Prior to the rise of the Al-Saif regime, Revello maintained a mixed economy reliant on agriculture, light manufacturing, coastal tourism, and a small but growing tech sector centered in the capital, Miragant. However, since the 2009 coup, the country has shifted toward a centrally controlled, militarized economy dominated by the state and tightly connected clerical elites. Traditional industries have collapsed under sanctions, corruption, and widespread brain drain, leaving large swaths of the population unemployed or reliant on subsistence farming.

Military
History: The armed forces of Revello, known officially as the Guardians of Divine Order (GDO), function as both a military force and a domestic enforcer of the regime’s theocratic rule. Formed after the 2009 coup by the extremist Al-Saif al-Haqq movement, the GDO replaced the former national army and absorbed several paramilitary and clerical militias into a single, highly centralized command structure. It operates under the direct authority of the Supreme Emir and the Council of Clerics, acting as both sword and shield of the Islamic Emirate. All citizens are subject to surveillance, but women in particular live under constant control. The regime enforces strict dress codes, movement restrictions, and gender segregation, all policed ruthlessly by female-only enforcement squads known as the Khalaqat. Girls as young as twelve are monitored and often removed from secular or scientific education to undergo religious indoctrination and state-controlled marriage programs, which the regime claims preserve “moral purity” and demographic strength. These practices are internationally condemned, and many activists consider them a form of systemic gender-based oppression.
