History: The History of Ursh: From Collapse to Unification

The history of Ursh begins with the catastrophic fall of the Old Imperiya Russ, once a formidable power, brought to ruin by the Calamity. The environmental devastation and loss of global connections plunged Russ into chaos, as famine, unrest, and power struggles consumed the nation. In this vacuum, Vladimir the Iron-Handed seized control, instituting an oppressive regime that exploited the people's desperation. However, his iron rule was short-lived, as General Mikhail Vostov overthrew him in a coup, plunging the nation into civil war.

Amid the chaos, a warlord named Shura Mirekova emerged. A brilliant strategist and compassionate leader, Mirekova garnered support from soldiers, workers, and peasants alike, promising stability and self-governance. After a grueling campaign, Mirekova defeated Vostov at the Battle of the Frozen Steppes, uniting the fragmented remnants of Russ under her banner.

Mirekova established the nation of Ursh, governed by a system of local democracy. Citizens elected lord governors, who convened in the Directory of Lords, while the economy was overseen by elected chairmen representing workers. The capital, Mosgorad, became a symbol of resilience, fortified with artillery and anti-aircraft towers and bustling with civilian activity.

Ursh’s rise led to inevitable conflicts. The newly formed nation clashed with Fistula over territorial disputes. Victory was achieved through the relentless efforts of the Urshen Ice Warriors, battle-hardened by their harsh, frozen homeland.

However, Ursh's greatest test came from Jermani, an industrial powerhouse seeking to dominate Eld Iuropa. Years of brutal warfare ended in stalemate, with Ursh successfully defending its sovereignty but at great cost. Today, Ursh remains a beacon of resilience, striving to solidify its place in Eld Iuropa while navigating the challenges of a fractured and war-torn world.

Geography
Continent: Asia
Land Area: 10,460.71 sq. km
Terrain: The Landscape of Ursh

Ursh is a vast, unforgiving expanse defined by its extreme climate and rugged geography. Stretching across the frigid heart of Eld Iuropa, the nation is dominated by sprawling tundras, dense taigas, and towering mountain ranges. These elements combine to create a land that is both beautiful and perilous, shaping the resilience and resourcefulness of its people.

The northern regions are blanketed in snow year-round, a stark white wilderness of icy plains and frozen rivers. Here, the temperature rarely rises above freezing, and the harsh environment fosters a diverse array of hardy wildlife, from reindeer to arctic foxes. The permafrost supports only the hardiest of vegetation, with sparse shrubs and lichen covering the ground.

To the south, dense coniferous forests dominate the landscape, forming an almost impenetrable barrier of towering pines and firs. These forests, known as the Blackwoods, are rich in natural resources but teem with dangers, including wild predators and freezing bogs. This region also houses many of Ursh's industrial centers, which extract timber and minerals to fuel the nation’s economy.

The central plateau, home to the fortress city of Mosgorad, is a vast, windswept plain punctuated by rolling hills and jagged cliffs. Here, the land is scarred by ancient glaciers, leaving behind valleys and fjords. Mosgorad itself stands atop a high ridge, protected by natural barriers and surrounded by sprawling farmland fed by underground water reservoirs.

The eastern steppes are drier, marked by windswept grasslands and sparse vegetation. This area serves as a critical trade route and military staging ground, with nomadic communities thriving in its open spaces.

Finally, the western mountains, the Iron Peaks, rise like jagged teeth, shielding Ursh from invasion. These ranges are rich in ores and host numerous mining towns, their harsh beauty a testament to the indomitable spirit of Ursh.

Highest Peak: The Iron peak, 598 meters
Lowest Valley: Caspian Ravine, -29 meters
Climate: The Weather and Climate of Ursh

Ursh experiences some of the harshest weather conditions in all of Eld Iuropa, with its climate defined by extreme cold, relentless winds, and long, unforgiving winters. The environment plays a central role in shaping the resilience and endurance of its people.

Winter Dominance: Winter in Ursh lasts nearly eight months, with temperatures in the northern tundras dropping as low as -60°C (-76°F) during the coldest months. Blizzards are frequent, blanketing the land in snow and ice, and fierce winds create whiteout conditions that make travel treacherous.

Short, Cool Summers: Summers are brief and mild, lasting only two to three months. Temperatures rarely exceed 15°C (59°F), even in the southernmost regions. During this time, the land bursts into life, with the taigas and steppes becoming lush and green, while rivers swell with meltwater.

Northern Tundras: The northernmost regions of Ursh are locked in perpetual frost, with temperatures averaging -30°C (-22°F) even in midwinter. Here, polar nights cast the land into darkness for weeks, followed by endless days of the midnight sun in summer.

Central Plateau and Mosgorad: The central region, including the capital Mosgorad, experiences slightly milder conditions but remains cold year-round. Winter temperatures range from -20°C to -40°C (-4°F to -40°F), while summer temperatures hover between 5°C and 10°C (41°F to 50°F).

Western Mountains: The Iron Peaks are notorious for their erratic weather, with sudden snowstorms and subzero temperatures even in summer. The higher altitudes can reach -50°C (-58°F) during winter, making survival here a challenge.

Eastern Steppes: The steppes are slightly warmer than the rest of Ursh but remain frigid in winter, averaging -15°C to -25°C (5°F to -13°F). Winds sweeping across the open plains exacerbate the cold, making it feel even harsher.

In Ursh, weather is both an ally and an adversary. Its bitter cold has become a natural defense, hardening its people and making the nation nearly impenetrable to outside forces unprepared for its brutal climate.

Description: The Economy of Ursh

The economy of Ursh is a unique system that blends central oversight with localized worker representation, reflecting its democratic and collective values. Despite the challenges of its harsh climate and isolated position, Ursh has built a self-sufficient economy centered around resource extraction, industrial production, and a tightly-knit communal structure.

Core Principles

Ursh's economy operates under the principle of collective ownership and worker representation. Local industries are overseen by elected chairmen, who are chosen by workers to manage production, allocate resources, and ensure fair distribution of goods. This system ensures that economic decisions prioritize the welfare of the populace while maintaining efficiency.

Key Sectors

1. Resource Extraction:

The backbone of the Urshen economy is its wealth of natural resources.

Mining: The Iron Peaks and other mountain ranges are rich in iron, coal, and rare metals critical for industry.

Forestry: The vast Blackwoods provide timber and biomass for energy.

Oil and Gas: The eastern steppes house oil fields, extracted through advanced drilling technology despite the harsh conditions.
