Founding

The early-to-mid-2090s were fantastic years for experiments involving animal uplifting. Though many animals saw successful results, none were nearly as successful as Sus Domesticus - the pig. Perhaps they were a little too successful; once they reached adulthood they started whining about things like "self-determination" and "equal rights" and other nonsense like that, like how a 13-year-old talks about liking communism because they think they're edgy and cool.

They must have known what they were talking about, because they quickly took over the lab in Houston, Texas, and eventually the entire city, driving out all the human residents. Now the coast of Texas is flooded with feral hogs that go to work and do taxes.

The Sounder, as the sapient pigs are collectively known, have been expanding eastward across North America. Impacted families often notice sights like hogs lounging in their yard drinking light beer and complaining about the government. (If this happens to you, it's too late. You cannot stop them. Your house belongs to the hogs now.)

Government

Hogantium is a multi-party parliamentary republic with six dominant parties in the government. These parties range across the political spectrum, from the Marxist-Leninist Animal Farm Party to the far-right Sounder Nationalist Party. Since the country's inception, the center-left Sounder Progressivist Party has continuously had the most seats in parliament and dominates the nation's governing.
