In the sea of celestial nothingness, far beyond the Milky Way's outer rim, lies the whimsically notorious space pirate nation known as the Lunar Invader Guild of Marauding Astronauts, or LIGMA for short. Famed for its unexpected antics, improbable events, and satirical spirit, LIGMA has become a legendary name whispered amongst the stars.

Formed by a motley crew of disgruntled space janitors, frustrated telemarketers, and retired video game testers with a deep-seated affection for classic arcade games, this ragtag bunch embraced the audacious lifestyle of space piracy to break the monotony of their previous lives. They banded together to create a country of their own, with the goal of uniting those passionate about breaking away from traditional extraterrestrial norms.

LIGMA's culture is steeped in humor, parody, and irony. The national flag is a retro pixelated alien invader symbol, paying homage to the video game "Space Invaders," with the traditional pirate skull and crossbones emblazoned in the middle. Their motto, "Abduct, Plunder, Repeat," is emblazoned below it in a bold, digital font. Their national anthem, the “Spacey Shanty," is sung to the tune of an old sea shanty, but with lyrics swapped out for tales of cosmic capers and shooting stars.

The governmental structure is a spoof of a bureaucratic democracy, referred to as a “Mockracy." In the LIGMA Mockracy, positions of power are not granted by vote or hereditary transfer, but by the candidate's high scores on a variety of vintage arcade games. The current leader, Prime Invader Zlog, secured his position by maintaining an unbeaten record on a painstakingly restored "Space Invaders" arcade cabinet.

Citizens of LIGMA (known as LIGMAtes) are famous for their annual Grand Galactic Gobble Festival, where they compete to "gobble" up as many extraterrestrial confectioneries as possible – a cheeky nod to another classic game, "Pac-Man." The economy is based on the raiding of space junk, with fortunes made.
