National Day of Independence: June 11th

History:

2005 - 2008: Veridia falls into civil war, with multiple factions fighting for independence.

2008 - 2009: Militias in Veridia's Northern District struggle to fight against each other and Veridia. They form a temporary alliance called the "Frontline Defense Union" to coordinate attacks against Veridia.

2009 - 2010: Veridia attempts diplomatic and peaceful resolutions between all factions within its borders over the next two years. Promises are made that those under the "Frontline Defense Union" will not be persecuted if peace is made, and their own political party will be allowed to stand within Veridian Parliament.

As a result, the Frontline Defense Union votes to become "The Liberty Rangers" (TLR).

Late 2010: Within weeks of initial peace talks, TLR representatives are sent to Veridia but are assassinated within minutes of stepping on Parliament grounds. The killers are never found, and conflicts resume. All resolutions of peace between TLR and Veridia are disbanded because TLR members believe Veridia is to blame, mainly due to the fact that Veridian police officers refuse to properly investigate the assassinations.

-----------------EDIT LINE-------------------

On June 11th, 2012, Veridia viewed their Northern District as an autonomous zone, yet still claimed it as Veridian territory.

However, it took 18 months of even fiercer border clashes and multiple attempted terrorist attacks by Veridian special forces before Mackinacora was recognized as a separate entity by Veridia.

History: Mackinacora was once part of a larger country known as Veridia. Veridia was a prosperous and powerful nation that spanned much of the Great Lakes region, with a strong economy, a vibrant culture, and a proud and patriotic people.

However, in the first years of the 21st century, Veridia began to suffer from a series of economic and political crises. Its economy faltered, its infrastructure crumbled, and its people became increasingly disillusioned with their government and their way of life. As tensions boiled over, Veridia was torn apart by civil unrest and conflict, eventually collapsing into chaos and ruin.

In the aftermath of Veridia's collapse, the people of Mackinacora began to advocate for greater autonomy and self-determination. They recognized that their unique cultural and economic identity was not fully represented within the larger Veridian political system, and that they needed to chart their own course in order to survive and thrive.

After a long period of negotiation and struggle, Mackinacora was granted independence as a sovereign nation. Its people were determined to build a new country that would be different from Veridia - one that was rooted in its unique history and cultural heritage, but also forward-looking and progressive.

In the decades that followed, Mackinacora became known as a land of opportunity and innovation. Its natural resources, including its forests, lakes, and minerals, were carefully managed to ensure that they were sustainable and environmentally responsible. Its economy thrived, driven by a diverse range of industries, from tourism and hospitality to high-tech manufacturing and now nuclear energy.

Today, Mackinacora is a shining example of what can be achieved when a people come together to build a new and better future. Its people are proud of their history and heritage, but they are also focused on creating a better world for themselves and future generations.

Economy
Description: This nation has a capitalist economy in which her citizens can perform community service in return for government welfare. Mackinacora believes even the severely disabled, both mentally and physically, has a purpose and can positively help their country.

Mackinacora uses a progressive tax income, taxing the upper class higher than the lower class to allow for more lower class citizens the ability to increase savings and lower economic pressure caused by everyday expenses.
Average Yearly Income: $211.35
Gross Domestic Product (GDP): $2,172,313,292.00
GDP per Capita: $922.13
Gross National Income (GNI): $1,077,344,585.00
Industries: Mackinacora's economy is largely based on steel and gasoline refineries, as well as commerce such as shopping malls and stadiums. Mining plays a crucial role in supporting these major industries by providing essential resources like iron, uranium, and coal. However, due to past regional nuclear wars, the land is unsuitable for farming, making food production a less profitable industry.

Despite the challenges in food production, Mackinacora's advanced industrial capabilities and strong military allow for easy trade with neighboring nations. The country trades food for steel, gasoline, and military protection, ensuring the nation's continued economic and military growth.
Military
History: The armed forces were formed in 2009 originally consisting of pirates, state-enemies of Veridia, mercenaries, outlaws, militiamen, and rebels. Current President Jim Bridger's Great Grandfather, Samuel Bridger, was a leader of "The Liberty Rangers" which was the main resistance force against the government of Veridia.

After the war against Veridia was over and Mackinacora's independence was acknowledged, the local militia groups all formed as one and became the "National Christian Conservative Party" with Samuel Bridger as their leader.

As the militias eventually developed into the National Military we see today, some members transitioned into politics. Due to his leadership during the conflict, Samuel was elected as the first President of Mackinacora in a landslide victory against Veridia-backed candidate Kenneth Nelson.
