Formation and Evolution of a Community: The Journey from Soup Kitchen to Singularity

Together with Charlie Traveler and Radovanko, Kev co-founded a new political community in Orbis known as Soup Kitchen. This alliance quickly made its mark, comprising several notable figures who have since become—or already were—mainstays of the PnW landscape. Since its inception in 2019, Soup Kitchen has played a pivotal role in shaping Orbis politics, participating in key alliances and conflicts, including co-founding the first mini-bloc (Chaos) and helping architect multiple major spheres.

Alliance Evolution: As Seen by Kev

Following the end of Dial-Up/NPOLT, Soup Kitchen had been embroiled in conflict for 11 and a half of its first 12 months. This unrelenting war schedule took a toll on the community, ultimately prompting a rebrand to The Enlightenment. The rebrand also brought in a fresh wave of experienced members to strengthen the alliance’s foundation.

As part of this new direction, the community embraced a multi-sphere strategy, aligning with Guardian and Grumpy to form the bloc Hedge Money. Around this time, Kev and Keegoz were working to onboard Sketchy. However, Sketchy had a prior obligation: he would only join if his alliance, North Point, was integrated into the community. With consensus reached, the influx of new members led to another rebrand—Children of the Light (CotL).

With retirements increasing, CotL recognized the need to deepen its bench to maintain its influence in Orbis foreign affairs. Leftbehind took the lead in reestablishing ties with Acadia, bringing them back into the fold. Meanwhile, Kev turned his attention to a struggling ally, E404, with the aim of either assisting their recovery or incorporating them into CotL. This eventually led to E404 merging into the alliance, sparking yet another rebrand: Cataclysm.

Kev and Charlie Traveler (recently returned) then launched a meme-centric alliance known as The Street, intended as a high-tier ally for Cataclysm and a cornerstone for a new bloc—Clock. However, Charlie soon stepped away again, and Kev folded The Street back into Cataclysm.

Despite the various changes, the heart of the Soup community remained its people. As the influx of new members shifted the alliance culture, some original members began to feel disconnected. This sentiment led to the creation of Paradise, a new alliance focused on community and camaraderie. Paradise reunited many original Soup and Enlightenment members, including the return of Abaddon, and attracted influential newcomers who would be instrumental in shaping both Paradise and its successor, Singularity. Kev brought in Sketchy to co-lead with Anri, forming a leadership duo that upheld the community-focused ethos while providing strong governance.

Meanwhile, Cataclysm began to struggle under the weight of leadership fatigue, as Keegoz and Deca shouldered most responsibilities. Discussions of a merger between Cataclysm and Paradise had been ongoing during Paradise's rise. Under the leadership of Sketchy and Anri, a deal was finally reached: the two sister communities would reunite under a single banner—Singularity.
