Torech Ungol, also known as Shelob’s Lair, is a treacherous labyrinth located in the pass of Cirith Ungol. It served as an impassable maze designed to ensnare Mordor’s enemies. At the top of a perilous staircase, shrouded in shadow and darkness, lay the lair itself. The tunnel walls were smooth, as if worn by countless touches. Inside, the remnants of Shelob’s past prey—skeletons and rotting corpses—littered the cave. Deeper into the maze, sticky webs formed an intricate network of tunnels, most of which only Shelob herself knew. The foul and evil air carried a distinct smell sensed by those who ventured there. Shelob, a monstrous spider and daughter of Ungoliant, ruled this domain. Her freedom to devour the inhabitants of the nearby Tower of Cirith Ungol was granted by the Dark Lord Sauron in return for her services. It was within these shadowed depths that Frodo and Sam found themselves, tricked by Gollum, and only the Phial of Galadriel allowed their escape. Shelob, using her tunnels, ambushed Frodo, intending to feast upon him. However, Sam’s bravery and the Phial of Galadriel allowed him to wound her and drive her back into the depths. Shelob's lair remains a place of dread and danger. 🕷️🌑
