What was the North German Revolution?

In May 2036, the North German Democratic Republic's government raised taxes on sailors, farmers, and imports to pay for a war in Russland between two countries in the region of Novgorod. The taxes were put into place by Prime Minister Johann 'The Idiot' . This greatly affected many citizens of the nation. In the Northern regions of the country, unemployment reached an all-time-high, since many citizens were sailors and corporations could not afford to pay sailors. Supermarkets were also running out of products to sell, since imports decreased after the tariffs. Consequently, many citizens were outraged.

Protests broke out in the coastal regions, which were the most affected by the taxes. The biggest protests broke out in Kiel, Lübeck, and Hamburg. Almost 31% of residents in Kiel went to an organized protest, 27% in Lübeck, and 26% in Hamburg. Many more cities had substantial protests, such as Berlin, Hanover, Cologne, and Bremen.

The protests started out relatively peacefully, even though some protesters attempted to storm local government buildings. The government made another unwise decision when it sent in the military to suppress protesters. The military escalated the situation greatly when it accidentally caused the death of two protesters, Maria Rosenstein and Eckhart Rosenstein.

When protesters and non-protesters found out about this incident, they were outraged even more than they already were. The protests quickly escalated from non-violent protests to violent protests and in some places like Kiel, full-on rebellion broke out. In just 2 weeks, the cities of Kiel, Hamburg, and Hanover were seized by protesters and they quickly overran the army.

When other protest groups saw the success of other groups, many cities also broke out in revolution. Most notably, Berlin. Berlin was seized by protesters in under 3 days, and many population centers in Northern Germany were controlled by revolutionists. The North German government soon recalled many of its soldiers that went to support the war in Russland. The government knew it had no other way to avoid the state's destruction except through violence.

By the time the army arrived, the revolution had already connected their armies and it had grown immensely in numbers. The army of the Republic had landed in Schleswig, but was quickly cut down by the revolutionists. The government of the enemy Russian nation which was fighting the Republic had given weapons and sent generals to aid the revolution. These were extremely helpful in defeating the Republic's army which landed some 30 miles away from Kiel.

The Republic soon crumbled after the army's defeat with not many soldiers to defend itself, and the people close to starving since their imports were extremely low with their port cities captured. The revolution lasted 1 month and 4 days.

Aftermath of the Revolution

After the revolution, the revolutionists soon argued amongst themselves about who should replace the former government. Some argued that they should put a socialist government in place, others wanted a monarch, and some wanted a return to the former government. Putting the previous government back in power was very quickly ruled out, and few supported the idea in the first place. Ultimately, it boiled down to whether a socialist government should be put in place, or a Monarch be crowned.

The large majority of monarchists despised Socialism to a certain extent, and the socialists absolutely despised the monarchists. It quickly devolved into fights, though on smaller scales than the revolution had been on, since no one wanted to have another revolution. The situation was being closely watched by foreign nations, especially the Russian country who had opposed the Republic and supported the revolution.

Eventually, the Russians, who were from a far-right country 'the Sovereign Russian Empire' sent delegations to negotiate who would replace the old government. Negotiations quickly broke down however, as the revolutionists could tell the Russians were trying to exploit the opportunity.

When the revolutionists refused to negotiate with the Russians, the Russians decided to attack the revolutionists. The revolutionists had no chance, since the majority of their support and generals were from the Russians. They surrendered very quickly, and a Russian government soon led Northern Germany.

Russian Rule of Northern Germany

The Russian country where the delegates were from was a very radical and far-right country, which believed in racial superiority of Russians over other ethnicities. When the Russian government was put into place, the country was soon transformed into a nightmare. The people were led by sheer and extreme terror and fear. Those who resisted the Russians were slaughtered. Eventually, however, after about 5 years, the Russian generals left the country, leaving only the Russian government.

The government quickly acclimated. Instead of teaching the superiority of the Slavic peoples, the government started teaching the superiority of the German peoples. They taught that the Germans were above all others, only equal with the Slavs. The Germans and Slavs had authority over all foreigners and other races. This helped fuel the propaganda of Extermination Zone 01, as it was called.

The first 'Grand Exterminator' of this country was Ivan, who was himself descended from a family of nobles from the Sovereign Russian Empire. His son was Vasiliy, and he was the heir. Under Ivan, the people were indoctrinated by the wicked doctrine that was taught, and the propaganda was extremely deceiving to all people.

After the death of Ivan, which was some 20 years after the Russians seized control, Vasiliy was crowned Grand Exterminator, and he would be one of the most evil rulers known to the people of Germany. He taught racial superiority as well, but he added onto it. He said that not even Slavs were equal to the Germans, and that the Germans were exalted above the Slavs. The people probably would have revolted against the Slavic rulers of the country if Vasily didn't teach about the exaltation of some Germans amongst others.

Vasiliy taught that if Germans obeyed their government they would be superior even to other Germans and had some degree of authority above them. This led to Germans exposing other Germans who could be seen as rebellious in order to be exalted. Eventually, however, after over 30 years, Vasiliy died.

Return of North Germany to the German People.

After the death of Vasiliy, a succession crisis broke out, since Vasiliy had no sons. The people did not want to put one of Vasiliy's other relatives on the throne again. Most people supported the economist Albrecht von Odon for his ideas of freedom and liberty which were not forgotten during those years. After some quarrels, Albrecht was crowned Grand Duke of the newly established monarchy 'Saxenland.' To this day he is still the Grand Duke and has made important changes.
