Withdrawal from GENDT and economic developments.
ISSUE #7: December 14, 2085
After a controversial proposal suggesting Luna's withdrawal from the Global Economic and National Defense Treaty (GENDT), the motion to do so has passed in the Lunar Parliament with a 54-46 majority.
Parliament member Zora Meissner voted against leaving the alliance and recounts the heated debates that took place over the issue.
"We were all just trying our very hardest, and it wasn't like some bills that just got an immediate following — we were almost evenly split on it. Probably the closest vote we've ever held on something like this, actually," Meissner explained.
Secretary of State Joseph Belrose claims that it is in Luna's best interest to leave, but to continue relations to some extent.
"Although it is confirmed that Luna will be leaving the GENDT, we would like to continue economic relations with certain nations, and we will, of course, maintain alliances with nations such as Lapunto Antarkta and The Canadian Federation, who have been allied with Luna for years prior to even the formation of the GENDT," Belrose said.
Although Lunar commerce levels are very high already, the nation has worked to further develop its economy through resource production. Uranium mines have been created near larger cities, and recently, the government has invested in a uranium enrichment program to increase production.
Secretary of Commerce Thomas Hawthorne explained that the decision was made, in part, by the need for power for all twelve major cities (smaller cities typically have used wind or solar power in the past).
"First of all, we use nuclear power plants from Arcadia to Aerimere, and it's best to be self-sufficient in that aspect," Hawthorne said. "Secondly, though, this uranium enrichment project will give us something to export."
Aerimere citizen Melina Kite praised the decision, explaining that it would further help to ensure economic stability and self-reliance in the economy.
"We know well enough that we can't be too dependent on others for things like our power," Kite said. "It's just the logical next step, you know? Now that we have some production, we can further that and have a proper supply to export."

Good, good. All I want is for my people to be safe and history has taught us that the Fascist Imperialists in the Global Watch would love nothing more that the death of my people and Nation.
Well, I do have friendly relations with some GW members- mostly just Hunton, though I may end hostilities with RoDevs for the second time (and not mess it up within a few weeks like I did last time). We're very anti-fascist, though, so our chances of allying with fascist imperialists are very low.
Like I said, if things work out right, we might be able to offer you an alternative soon.
Yeah, let's pretend that worked last time...
(I've always been a gigachad nation and still am, but neutrality failed badly)
Always was, always will be :)
If you mark me as Super Friendly on your next relations bulletin, I will give you a bazooka
You know, I'm not really sure if I need a bazooka, but we can certainly establish relations.
I'm gonna give you a tank, no matter if you establish relations or not. I wanna know how well it works in cold environments.
Alright, then. I'd certainly be interested in establishing relations, though.
Same here. Let me just...
Here you go. That is the MBT-52 "Kuma". Strong enough to pierce Japanese tanks.
