Vendsyssel – The Northern Republic

The Republic of Vendsyssel is a small but proud island nation located at the northernmost tip of Scandinavia. Technically separated from mainland Denmark by the Limfjord, Vendsyssel has long maintained a strong regional identity, and in recent years, declared itself an independent parliamentary republic. Vendsyssel maintains a neutral foreign policy, favoring cooperation with Norway, the Faroe Islands, and Northern Jutland across the Limfjord. Relations with Denmark are cordial but cautious. The national defense consists of a modest coastal guard, a volunteer border patrol, and the ceremonial Limfjord Fleet — a collection of converted fishing boats and one symbolic frigate, VKS Skagerrak.

The flag of Vendsyssel features a blue field with a white wave above a green base — symbolizing the sea, shoreline, and open land. The national bird is the oystercatcher, whose sharp cry echoes along the coasts.

On October 15th, the country celebrates its independence day with music, speeches, and the symbolic lifting of the Limfjord Bridge — a reminder that Vendsyssel stands proudly on its own.
