History: | Long ago, before the rise of kings and empires, the scattered Skyborn tribes roamed the windswept archipelagos of what would one day be called the Tempest Isles—lands lashed by perpetual storms and crowned by jagged peaks. The people were hardy, their spirits forged by endless gales, their myths woven with tales of Tempra, the Storm Goddess, and her celestial kin: the Skyserpents, ancient dragons of wind and lightning. For centuries, the tribes waged bitter wars over the rare and potent Tempestite Crystals, glowing blue stones that hummed with the fury of captured storms. The greatest of these tribes—the Valkari and the Aeron—feared and respected the dragons, offering sacrifices to the mighty winged beasts that claimed the mountain aeries. The Rise of Emperor Kraven 🗡️🐉 Out of the crucible of endless strife rose a figure whose name would forever be etched into the bones of the world: Kraven Stormsunder, the First Emperor of the Tempest Federation. Kraven was no ordinary man. Some claimed he was the half-blood child of Tempra herself. Others whispered he had been raised by dragons in the shattered heights of Stormspire Peak. What is certain is this: Kraven appeared when the warring clans were on the brink of extinction, and by sheer will, charisma, and unmatched martial prowess, he bent them into a single unstoppable nation. But Kraven’s secret lay not in his sword alone—it lay in his Pact with the Dragons. Deep within the lair of the eldest dragon, the colossal wyrm known as Vorthanyx the Howling Gale, Kraven forged an alliance sealed in ancient magics and blood. In return for protection, reverence, and sacred rights over the highest peaks, the dragons would serve as the guardians of the Federation. It was Kraven himself who uttered the words that became the eternal motto of his dynasty: “Only fools challenge a dragon in its lair.” This was not mere metaphor. The Tempest Federation’s heartland, nestled among high crags and storm-riven coasts, was literally defended by dragons—creatures of wind, lightning, and fire whose terrifying presence alone kept enemy armies at bay. The Founding of the Federation Kraven declared the unification of the islands, establishing the Tempest Federation, where each Skyborn tribe retained its own ancient customs but swore fealty to the Sky Throne, the imperial seat carved into the peak of Stormspire itself. From this throne, Kraven ruled not as a tyrant, but as a stormfather, ensuring balance between tribe and sky, mortal and dragon. His command of Tempestite-infused magic allowed him to wield storms as weapons, hurling lightning and controlling winds during the legendary War of the Sun and Storm, where the Federation crushed the invading armies of the Solar Dominion. The presence of dragons in these wars was pivotal: vast sky-battles took place over ocean and island, with winged beasts tearing through the air alongside magically powered airships. Dragons in the modern age of the Federation are seen not just as beasts, but as sacred living gods—each with their own lair, territory, and worshippers. To slay a dragon is considered the gravest of taboos, punishable by sky-shackling—a brutal execution where the condemned is chained to a floating rock and left for the storms to claim. Today: The Tempest Federation remains a formidable nation of sky-mages, dragon riders, storm callers, and airship fleets, their cities clinging to cliffs or floating upon the winds themselves. They are a people who live and die by the storm. |
