History: The area now known as modern day Rumeria was colonized by the Dutch in 1693. Its original inhabitants were no match for Dutch firearms and the island was swiftly taken by a force of only 100 dutch sailors. Many natives captured during the initial assault were taken back to the Netherlands as slaves, whilst the rest of the islands inhabitants remained under Dutch rule forced to assist in the production of spices for the Dutch East India Company.

Almost a century later in 1775 the Dutch brought in a workforce of slaves from Western Africa, and over the course of the following 4 decades an estimated 15,000 West African slaves were transported into the region.

The slave trade in the area continued all the way up until 1860 when slavery was abolished in Indonesia. Free from their bonds but still under Dutch rule the former slaves had no where to turn to and most continued working for their former slave owners. Despite no longer being slaves they were payed barely enough to survive and most would spend their whole lives in one place.

In 1942 however, at the height of one of the biggest conflicts in history the Dutch were driven out of Rumeria and its people found itself under new rule. The Japanese ruled with an iron fist but when the world witnessed the power of the atom on that fateful day in 1945 all Japanese troops were recalled to the mainland leaving the Rumerians behind and free from outside rule. Rumeria quickly declared its independence
