History: | The Republic of Gaonnuri was founded on August 15, 2045, in the aftermath of the catastrophic collapse of the Republic of Korea. Amid escalating political polarization, populism, and a breakdown of democratic norms, the Republic of Korea entered a period of deep instability beginning in the 2030s. A power-hungry administration, aligned with a dominant party, attempted to undermine democratic institutions and consolidate authoritarian control. This ultimately sparked internal chaos and division. Sensing opportunity, the military coalition of North Korea, China, and Russia began enhancing joint military capabilities starting in 2025. By June 25, 2040, North Korea, acting independently, launched a full-scale invasion of South Korea. Despite fierce resistance from the ROK-US Combined Forces, the war dragged on for three years. On July 27, 2043, the Republic of Korea fell and was fully annexed by North Korea. However, a group of Korean survivors, scholars, and civil servants, supported by the United Nations, NATO, the United States, and Japan, evacuated essential national infrastructure, data, and artifacts—virtually 99.9% of the Republic of Korea’s cultural and institutional foundation. They relocated to a massive, uninhabited island in the Pacific Ocean—roughly the size of Indonesia and situated 3,000 km east of Tokyo. There, they declared the establishment of a new sovereign state, the Republic of Gaonnuri, symbolizing rebirth and unity. 🌏 Regional Conflicts and Defense In 2048, Japan briefly considered a military operation to seize Gaonnuri’s abundant resources. However, U.S. diplomatic intervention prevented the plan from proceeding, instead promoting economic cooperation. On April 9, 2050, the coalition of North Korea, China, and Russia launched a major invasion of Gaonnuri, aiming to crush the young republic. After three years of intense warfare, the war ended on February 7, 2053, with a decisive victory by Gaonnuri and its allies, including the U.S., Japan’s Self-Defense Forces, NATO, and UN peacekeepers. In the aftermath: On March 21, 2057, Russia officially apologized during a summit in Istanbul and normalized diplomatic relations. On September 7, 2058, China issued a formal apology during talks in Singapore, also leading to normalization. North Korea, however, continued to mock Gaonnuri, claiming that it had already “unified the Korean Peninsula,” provoking strong condemnation. As a result, Gaonnuri designated North Korea as a hostile state and cut all diplomatic ties. President Choi Chan-young has repeatedly expressed his firm commitment to reclaim the Korean Peninsula in the future. 📈 Economic Rise and Global Recognition Thanks to abundant natural resources and effective governance, Gaonnuri achieved rapid economic growth, resulting in 87% public approval for both President Choi and the ruling Democratic Liberty Party. By the early 2060s, Gaonnuri had: Established diplomatic relations with all nations except North Korea, including both Israel and Palestine. Emerged as one of the Top 10 Global Powers, recognized for its robust economy, energy exports, innovation in sustainable technologies, and cultural renaissance rooted in Korean traditions. |
