History: | By the 12th century, the Second Ganapan Empire was locked in a brutal war against the Zorathi Remnant, a hardened desert kingdom that had resisted Ganapan expansion for decades. The Zorathi relied on heavy cavalry and composite bows, outmaneuvering Ganapan forces in open battle. Desperate for an advantage, the Ganapan Alchemist Corps—a secretive order of scholars and engineers—developed a terrifying new weapon: the fire lance, an early proto-gun that spewed flames and shrapnel. • The Clash at Black Sands The Zorathi warlord Khan Vorsha led 20,000 troops into the Black Sands Desert, intending to crush the Ganapan army in a decisive battle. The Ganapan general Talis Veyron, however, had prepared a trap. His forces lured the Zorathi cavalry into a narrow valley, where 300 fire lancers lay hidden behind barricades. When the Zorathi charged, the fire lancers unleashed a wall of flame and iron pellets, decimating the front ranks. The resulting chaos caused a stampede, as panicked horses trampled their own riders. Ganapan phalanxes then advanced, cutting down the disorganized survivors. By dusk, 12,000 Zorathi lay dead, while Ganapan losses were minimal. • Aftermath and Legacy The victory shattered Zorathi power, forcing them into a humiliating surrender. The fire lance became the precursor to cannons and handgonnes, with the Military Academy of Ganarok refining the technology into more reliable firearms. The battle also proved that science could dominate brute force, leading to greater investment in military engineering. |
