Economy
Description: Istral's economy is a fascinating mix of ancient traditions and modern innovations, a reflection of its unique history and its careful steps into the modern age. At its core, Istral's economic system is still largely agrarian, rooted in the feudal practices of its medieval past. Small villages, scattered across the countryside, function as largely self-sufficient units, with most villagers engaged in subsistence farming, supplemented by traditional crafts and trades. Land ownership is often tied to ancient lineages, with powerful noble families controlling vast tracts of land and the peasants who work them. However, this traditional feudal structure is slowly being challenged by the emerging influence of industry and technology. The recent introduction of machines, powered by both traditional methods and the new found use of electricity, is gradually increasing agricultural output and creating new opportunities for trade. The internet, still in its early stages, is connecting isolated villages to larger markets, allowing them to sell their goods and crafts to a wider audience. This trade is leading to the growth of small towns and market centers, creating a growing merchant class. However, the transition is not without its challenges. The gap between the wealthy landowners and the peasant farmers remains significant, leading to social tensions. The introduction of machines is also displacing some traditional crafts and trades, creating economic anxieties among those who fear being left behind. Istral's economy is at a crossroads, a unique blend of ancient traditions and modern advancements, a delicate balance between its magical past and its uncertain future. The nation's economic future depends on how well it navigates this transition, ensuring that the benefits of progress are shared equitably and that its rich cultural heritage is preserved.

Industries: Istral's economy combines ancient crafts and modern tech. Agriculture, using magic and machines, is still dominant. Mining of previously useless ores fuels metallurgy and artisanry. A new tech industry integrates magic and computers. Traditional crafts, imbued with magic, remain vital. These sectors are interconnected, however slowly but surely dying out, as the efficiency of the new technology is unmatched.
Military
History: Istral's military, once immensely powerful due to the ever-present threat of the Demon Cults, now faces an uncertain future. For centuries, its structure mirrored the feudal system, with noble families providing legions of soldiers, many possessing inherited magical abilities. Infantry, skilled in both traditional swordsmanship and magical combat, formed the backbone of these legions. The threat of the Demon Cults spurred the development of powerful, magically-enhanced weaponry and defensive medieval infrastructure. However, with the Demon Cults' demise, the need for such a large, heavily militarized force is now questioned. The slow embrace of the machine age introduces new technologies, such as firearms and vehicles. A specialized corps of technologically-trained soldiers, equiped with this new deadly technology is emerging, but their role is unclear in a world without Demon Cults. While the nation's outdated medieval defensive measures remain, their maintenance and expansion are debated, as resources are now diverted to other areas. The future of Istral's military hinges on a crucial decision: adapt to a new era of peace and technological advancement, or maintain its powerful structure, perhaps for future threats, yet at a significant economic cost. The balance between tradition and modernity, magic and technology, is no longer dictated by the immediate threat of the Demon Cults, leaving Istral's military at a crossroads.
