Our Founding Laws

The purpose of Ostia is to regain the power and glory of the Roman Empire.

All Ostians have the freedoms of religion, peaceful protesting, press, and most importantly speech.

The role of the emperor is ceremonial and comes with no power.

The emperor is the figurehead leader.

Everything not included in the founding laws is under the governing laws.

At each prime minister election, the winner will chose the governing laws of the country.

The current prime minister can change the governing laws at anytime.

The other ministers are just advisors with no power but are still elected by the people.

All ministers are elected by all Ostians every four years regardless of age or past behaviors.  

Minister elections shall be held by a popular vote.

Vice ministers are not ministers.

Prime ministers can choose a vice minister to replace them if they are ever unfit to rule.

The Ostian Supreme Court can dismiss any law or impeach any government official or bureaucrat in favor of the founding laws.

The Ostian Supreme Court must always have eleven justices.

An Ostian Supreme Court justice can only serve for ten years. 

The names of Ostian Supreme Court justices shall not be publically available but told to whoever asks. 

All the lawyers and judges hold a vote for who they want to be on the Ostian Supreme Court when a justice's term is up: the winner is the new justice. 

The Council of Elections will manage all the elections.

The Council of Elections' members are volunteer citizens. 

The heir-apparent is the eldest child of the emperor.

If there is no heir-apparent: then the current prime minister will inherit the throne.

The city of Ostia is the capital city.

The founding laws can be changed with a popular vote or with a unanimous vote in the Ostian Supreme Court.

Founding Law Amendments

September 6th, 2108:

In order to safeguard stability, all further elections will be postponed indefinitely.

The Council of Elections shall be dissolved.

The new leader shall go by the title of general secretary and shall oversee an advisory legislative branch known as the congress.   

Congressmen have no power and are chosen by the general secretary. 

The general secretary will have absolute rule over the country.  

The vice secretary is the heir to general secretary position.

The emperor and his system shall be no more. 

Communism is the law of the land.

The freedoms that Ostians were granted by the founding laws are no more.

All Ostians are ULP members.

The Ostian Supreme Court shall be dissolved.  

Regaining Roman glory is no longer Ostia's purpose.

Next one has been indefinitely postponed.

Political Parties

Current Ruling Party:

United Labour Party (ULP)*: 100% of total registered voters.

Party Chair: General Secretary Maximus Scorpio II 

Former Parties:

Moderate Conservative Party (MCP)** 

Party Chair: Conservative Lucius Virgil/Moderate Amulius Carina.

*The ULP used to be a ton of smaller parties centered around socialism and communism. However, ten, fifthteen years ago: those parties united in favor of spreading Communist and Socialist ideals.    

**The Moderate Party and the Conservative Party merged to gain enough voters to win elections. The merger happened on September 5th, 2108.
