History: | The nation arose after many people became disgruntled with the way the Scottish and British governments were ruling. Many from Stirling, Dunbartonshire and Argyll saw the governments showing favour towards the bigger cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh. It had almost been 100 years since the failed Scottish independence referendum of 2014. The cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh were being granted huge sums of money to develop into "next century cities" with Aberdeen, Perth and Dundee being given a lesser grant. The city of Stirling was being neglected which sparked protests. Councilor Thomas Semple led the protests which proved to be unsuccessful at swaying the Scottish and British government to invest in Stirling, but it paved the way to a new independence movement. Meanwhile, Councilor Adam Fletcher of Argyll gave backing to the protesters and decided to join. A new movement called "independence and fairness for Argyll & Trossachs" was launched. These were a series of protests and demonstrations which were again becoming unsuccessful. It was decided that more drastic measures must be taken for the Scottish & British governments to sit up and take notice. It was decided to form "Rifle Volunteer" groups. The Rifle Volunteers were a paramilitary group who would go on to form the modern Defence Force. It originally began as 2 companies. These were the Argyll Rifle Volunteers (ARV) and the Stirlingshire Rifle Volunteers (SRV). A third company from Dunbartonshire were formed in 2103 as the Dunbartonshire Rifle Volunteers (DRV). The names came from the rifle volunteer corps formed in the 19th & 20th centuries. The SRV was commanded by ex SAS soldier Robert Watson and the ARV was commanded by ex Para trooper Nigel Small. The DRV was commanded by ex British Army major Scott Yuill. The RV's, as they were nicknamed collectively, began a series of guerilla attacks, most notably at Faslane, Coulport and Lossiemouth. The armed conflict was proving effective in bringing the Governments to talk. Semple & Fletcher were invited for peace talks at Bute house and Downing Street. Semple & Fletcher agreed to attend but drew up plans of independence with new borders as they felt the governments could not be trusted. On the 1st April 2109, Argyll & Trossachs was granted it's independence. 2 days later it was decided to rename the nation to "Lomond" (officially the Free State of Lomond) after Loch Lomond as this name did not necessarily exclude Dunbartonshire. The flag was decided for a number of reasons. Blue was decided as the main colour to represent the water of Loch Lomond and the nation's Scottish roots. White was decided to represent the snow caps of Ben Lomond and the Arrochar alps aswell as to represent peace. The red stag was agreed as the national symbol. The stag was chosen to represent leadership and protection aswell as being native to Lomond. The red was chosen to represent the revolution and struggle in achieving indepenence. |
