Republic with an oil based economy on Qatar’s Nothern shore, it was formerly under the control of Bahrain’s ruling tribe Al Khalifa. In this alternative history, Bahrain had maintained this territory even under British control and all tribes of Qatar to the South were kept separated under different colonial administrations, emerging as different nations during decolonization and not merging afterwards. In this reality Qatar is only a geographical reality. And so Bahrain had become independent with North Qatar still under its control without any real independence movement or secessionist desire. That was until the greatest oil field were found to the North of the Qatari peninsula in 1940. Arab Nothern Qataris hoped to get out of misery, secularize and exploit the oil for themselves. American agencies got on the train early, influenced the situation so that Nothern Qataris would strike to get independence. Once independence was secured the USA acted as guarantors of it and their expertise was needed. As a consequence thousands and thousands of educated Americans emigrated to Nothern Qatar, created a mixt Arab-American cultural entity over the decades, some American companies moved their headquarters there and helped the nation become even more wealthy. Now Nothern Qatar is extremely closed to Western Institutions, with trade deals with the USA and EU. They integrated NATO as an observatory member and in the Middle East they are one of the rare states which favors Israel.
