The Republic of Mykonos
About Mykonos:
The Republic of Mykonos is known for its tourism-based economy. A diverse Originally part of Greece, Mykonos citizens were oppressed by the Greek King, with many being subjugated to forced labor. Consequentially, the Mykonians declared a war of Independence, with the Mykonians being led by Konstantine Adonis. After the 5 year bloody war, the Mykoninans established a constitution, putting Konstantine Adonis as Head of State and Commander in Chief, as well as three branches of government. Mykonos' government, while a Federated Republic on the exterior, is actually a dictatorship, with the Supreme Leader ruling the country, and other branch positions being puppetered. Since its establishment, the Adonis Family has been in power for countless generations, aiming to grow their Empire.
Because of their past of forced labor, Mykonians generally welcome people of all racial, ethnic, and religious backgrounds, so long as they swear allegiance to the Supreme Leader. As a result, Mykonos is a very diverse nation consisting of people of Asian, African, Oceanic, and European descent, as well as people of all religions. Immigrants to Myknonos are naturalized after 7 years in the country, or after 2 years of mandatory military service.
Mykonians are typically very nationalistic because of the education and propaganda they receive from a young age. At the age of 18, all Mykonians are required to serve in one of the branches of the military for 3 years. For their military service, citizens are guaranteed free healthcare and education. Citizens have limited access to the internet, with it being heavily monitored by Mykonos' Propaganda and Media Bureau. Freedom of Speech is not a guaranteed right.
Government:
Executive Branch:
The President manages aspects of the government but mainly acts as the Chief Diplomat, dealing with other Nations and the UN. The Supreme Leader appoints the President, who will sometimes act in place of the Supreme Leader when they are absent. The President also oversees domestic propaganda and investigates corruption within the government, removing those who are corrupt. The President has control over the National Guard but still has to report to the Supreme Leader. The President shares the role of Head of Government with the Prime Minister. The President enforces the laws passed by the Prime Minister and the legislation. The Vice President is in succession to the Presidency, and may also deal with foreign policy, but on a smaller scale. The Vice President is elected by popular vote like the Prime and Deputy Minister. Ultimately, everyone reports to the Supreme Leader, who can remove both the Prime Minister and President if they believe they're unfit. The Chairman of Commerce, Finance, and Banking manages the economy related to inflation, taxes, loans, etc. The Chairman can also oversee business regulation, unions, etc.
Legislature:
Mykonos's legislature, known as the General Assembly, is bicameral, with the lower chamber, the House of Representatives, and the Mykonos Senate. The House has 150 seats, while the Senate has 30. The House utilizes mixed-member proportional representation elections and typically has up to 6 political parties in its bicameral legislature. The Senate is elected by regional voting. The General Assembly as a whole has the power to make legislation, though the Prime Minister's veto can overturn any legislation. The Assembly can overturn vetos with a 75% majority, unless it is a veto from the Supreme Leader.
The Prime and Deputy Prime Minister are elected by popular vote. The Prime Minister acts as Head of the Legislature branch, managing the General Assembly and making sure the Legislature is working properly. The Prime Minister splits head of Government with the President. The prime minister appoints cabinet positions of secretaries, each of which runs a Department that makes up agencies. However, they all ultimately follow the commands of the Supreme Leader. Both the Supreme Leader and Prime Minister can veto legislation.
Judicial Branch:
The Supreme Court has 13 Justices, 6 of whom are appointed by the Supreme Leader and seven by the Prime Minister. The most senior of the Justices becomes the Chief Justice, leading the Court. The Supreme Court has the power to rule on whether legislation and military acts are constitutional or unconstitutional. However, it cannot apply this to the Supreme Leader. Each Justice also oversees smaller district and municipal courts. Each Justice can serve for 30 years, but can be removed by either the President or Supreme Leader if deemed "corrupt".
Military:
The Mykonos Military consists of 5 different branches. Each branch reports the Chairman of the Military, who reports directly to the Supreme Leader, rather than the Prime Minister. Because of mandatory service, citizens must go through a series of intelligence and physical examinations to determine which branch they will serve for the next 3 years.
