History: | The Romulans originated from dissident Vulcans who rejected Surak's philosophy of peace, during the Time of Awakening and emigrated from their homelands around the 4th century, marching under the banner of the Raptor that is still in use as a symbol of the Romulan Empire. This civilization, called the Debrune, was regarded as a predecessor of the Romulan Empire. After their odyssey, which lasted for centuries, the Vulcans finally reached and settled Romulus. They settled on the lands of Romulus and Remus, subjugating the native Remans in the process. Remans were considered at best as second-class citizens in the Romulan Empire, when they were not used for slave labour or as expendable shock troops. They chose to stay very contained, protecting their previously shunned beliefs. Once settled, the new Romulans turned their attention to the surrounding territories, in the militaristic and expansionist way that was the Vulcans’ before Surak’s reforms. The twin provinces of Romulus and Remus became the foundation of what became known as the Romulan Empire and soon spanned across a portion of Asia. |

Economy | |
Description: | The economy of the Romulan Empire is characterized by a centrally controlled, militaristic structure that prioritizes state interests over individual or commercial enterprise. As a secretive and authoritarian regime, the Romulan government maintains tight control over economic activity, with most industries serving the needs of the military and the Tal Shiar, the empire's powerful intelligence agency. Unlike the post-scarcity economies of many other nations, the Romulan economy appears to rely on traditional concepts of resource extraction, manufacturing, and labor, with less emphasis on replicator-based abundance. The Empire's economic priorities are driven by its strategic and expansionist goals, often focusing on technological development, espionage, and infrastructure that supports military dominance. Civilian life and commercial enterprise are barely documented, suggesting a heavily state-directed economy where innovation and production are tools for power projection and internal control. |
