The reign of D'Lowe has transformed Yan Kati Merd (YKM). The enigmatic throne has successfully garnered the love of the people with the nation now serving as a bastion of civilisation in the crater left by the catastrophic "An Tuaistear Mór".
While all resources and taxes collected in YKM initially flow to the Throne, a benevolent yet oblique method of governing has seen the pollution from "An Tuaistear Mór" reach manageable levels and the upland, walled cities of YKM have become a refuge for survivors. Recent literacy campaigns and a burgeoning middle class has even let commerce thrive in the urban areas of the kingdom. A strong military has historically defended the kingdom and provided security for city-dwellers from the feared 'Tuaisteoris' and of course, outside invaders.
As D'Lowe's reign stretches on and on, some Meridians have begun to wonder, what comes next? The Monarch is the foundation and bedrock of the state and there simply isn't a Yan Kati Merd without D'Lowe. The King is surely by now in his twilight years and a recent lack of public appearances has excited speculations somewhat. The Throne remains a mystery but some Meridians (quietly) seek answers as to the nature of their ruler. Yet for most Meridians, his true motives, ambitions and even if he truly exists remain unknown for now.

Terrain: | *Below is the publically available and non-official Wiki page for the Kingdom* The lands of Yan Kati Merd are predominantly stretching and desolate lowland plains, pockmarked by the towering rigs and floodlights of the Uranium mines and with most of the legally Meridian clay lying largely in the shadow of the upland capital region, the 'Suasteach'. If one decided to venture far beyond the walls surrounding the 'Suasteach', they'd find the landscape of YKM to be mostly a rather depressing dry brown. The relief of the area allows the brave (or stupid!) explorer to see miles into the distance, a distance that stretches on and on seemingly endlessly. The land itself is scarred. Shallow but regular gashes in the ground serve as a reminder for adventurers that they're travelling through dangerous areas. The unnatural hollows are often filled with dirty grey-green fluid, small boulders, and occasionally a corpse of an unfortunate traveller who failed to see the 'Tuaisteoris" before they saw the traveller. In a likely welcome break to the brown monotony of the YKM landscape, the highly guarded sites of the uranium mines (colloquially known as the U-Outposts) punctuate the sky with great iron spires extending up to 50metres and radiating light in all directions. While a traveller is still in Meridian clay, the capital is always visible but the U-Outposts serve as strongholds of civilisation in the wastelands of YKM. A single lifeline road, the famed 'Bothar-na-Saol' carves a path through the depressing plains of the kingdom, linking YKM to the outside world, providing a route for any travellers to the kingdom and serving as the method by which Uranium workers chose to return home after their month long shifts in the U-Outposts While exiting the kingdom, an astute traveller will likely notice the regular incline as the Bothar-na-Saol merges with the wider global network. While YKM proves all was not lost, the crater the kingdom is built in serves as a physical reminder of the damage suffered during 'An Tuaisteor Mor'. ~Comments from Dr.Chalain's Investigation~ The upland area of YKM's capital region, 'the Suasteach' should not exist. Yet reality stubbornly refuses to acknowledge this fact. The existence of a significant, unflattened area post-∆∆∆∆ defies explanation. Witchcraft, Divine Intervention and man-made mountains are theories on how this happened but any realists along with the few sane geologists we have left after studying YKM remain absolutely baffled. Like many things in YKM, the capital is confusing and absolutely bizarre. It shouldn't exist. It cannot exist but yet it most certainly does..... |
