History: In 2054, Cascadia had separated from the United States and gained recognition. At first, things were calm in the new nation, but there was a great divide between the urban and left-wing western part of the nation and the rural right-wing eastern part. Eventually, tensions increased, and in 2060, the president of Cascadia, Alexander Greystone was assassinated by a rebel group. Soon after the nation descended into a civil war. Many major population centers blockaded themselves away from the war, oblivious to the outside. One example of this was the Seattle metro area. Meanwhile, the civil war raged on until 2104, when the official government had won the war. However during this time the Seattle area had developed its own culture and identity in isolation, and wanted independence. At first this was denied. However in 2119, an unofficial referendum was in a majority to secede. The Seattle area continued to be a part of Cascadia, until 2159 when some counties in eastern Washington and Oregon had seceded. This sparked an independence movement, however it did not go anywhere until 2241, when during an economic crisis, the government collapsed and the nation was an Anarchy. The NCSDU (New Cascadian Social Democratic Union) was formed, a government that ruled over the Seattle area. Five years later, an official government for Cascadia was formed, but the NCSDU remained to have de-facto control of the Area, up until their independence on February 4th, 2302.
