Kallipolis  

Kallipolis, as envisioned by the philosopher Plato, is a ideal state built around 4 cardinal virtues: wisdom, courage, temperance and justice. In this ideal society, individuals are guided by reason and virtue, with philosopher-kings ruling as guardians who prioritize the well-being of the state. 

Education plays central role in Kallipolis. The youth undergo a strict educational system, where they are exposed to authorized tales and music, as well as physical education, with intention of cultivating healthy, virtous and well-conducted citizens. Individuals are carefully observed throughout their education, and based on their strengths in particular virtues, they are assigned to different classes within the state:

Guardians: Those who exhibit wisdom and love of truth will become guardians of the state with a right to rule, for they possess a soul made of gold. They will undergo further training in mathematics and philosophy, and with the acquired knowledge, they will be able to rule wisely in the interest of the entire state. But to not impair their virtue as guardians, they are not allowed to own any private property. They will receive a fixed rate of pay, but since wealth corrupts, it will only be enough to meet basic expenses. They shall focus on ruling, and should they ever acquire lands or moneys of their own, they will become enemies and tyrants instead of allies of the citizens.

Auxiliaries: Those who do not possess virtues needed for ruling, but possess courage and discipline, will become auxiliaries, with their soul made of silver. Their role is to aid the guardians and protect the state from external threats. They are primarily trained in gymnastics so they can best protect the principles of rulers.

Producers: The class of people who possess the soul of bronze, and while they do not rule or protect the state, they possess a vital role in contributing to the economic well-being of the state. This class includes farmers, artisans, and workers.
