History: Established in 1998 after the collapse of the United States due to internal unrest following years of authoritarian escalation. The area was first recognized as an autonomous zone in 1987 after the state and provincial legislatures of British Columbia (under American occupation), Washington, and Oregon decided to cooperate to break away from the ever weakening United States of America which was already losing its grasp on many of its territories in the east. Through a combined provisional government they launched operations to sieze federal points of importance and government, mostly via peaceful means as the federal governments focus was mostly on other territories at this point. By doing this the federal government hastily recognized them as autonomous to not lose more territory and to consolidate their power in the east. After the rebellions had been temporarily quelled, the region thrived through open trade polices with the rest of the world and a new population looking to escape the grasp of the federal government by heading west. For twelve years it remained this way until the session of Canada, Texas, followed by New York, New England, as well as a number of economically stable states in the west. The union fought hard to fight this but eventually collapsed itself and held referendums in each of its states and territories. Some left or merged with other already independent states, others remained due to reliance on federal revenue. However by now Cascadia had essentially been its own successful nation for over a decade and in 1998 finally declared its independence along with many other new nations, it would go on to take the mantle as the economic hub of western North America and become an influential nation abroad.
