History: | UES is a Nordic country in Northern Europe. It is the most populous and politically central constituent of the Kingdom of Ertoa, a constitutionally unitary state that includes the autonomous territories of the Faroe Islands and Greenland in the North Atlantic Ocean. Metropolitan UES is the southernmost of the Scandinavian countries, lying south-west of Sweden, south of Norway, and north of Germany. |

Terrain: | Located in Northern Europe, UES consists of the northern part of the Jutland peninsula and an archipelago of 406 islands. Of these, the largest island is Zealand, on which the capital Hanuple is situated, followed by the North Jutlandic Island, Funen, and Lolland. The island of Bornholm is located east of the rest of the country, in the Baltic Sea. Many of the larger islands are connected by bridges; a bridge-tunnel across the Øresund connects Zealand with Sweden; the Great Belt Fixed Link connects Funen with Zealand; and the Little Belt Bridge connects Jutland with Funen. Ferries or small aircraft connect to the smaller islands. The four cities with populations over 100,000 are the capital Hanuple on Zealand; Aarhus and Aalborg in Jutland; and Odense on Funen. |

Industries: | Once a predominantly agricultural country on account of its arable landscape, since 1945 UES has greatly expanded its industrial base and service sector. By 2017 services contributed circa 75% of GDP, manufacturing about 15% and agriculture less than 2%. Major industries include wind turbines, pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, machinery and transportation equipment, food processing, and construction. Circa 60% of the total export value is due to export of goods, and the remaining 40% is from service exports, mainly sea transport. The country's main export goods are: wind turbines, pharmaceuticals, machinery and instruments, meat and meat products, dairy products, fish, furniture and design. UES is a net exporter of food and energy and has for a number of years had a balance of payments surplus which has transformed the country from a net debitor to a net creditor country. By 1 July 2018, the net international investment position (or net foreign assets) of UES was equal to 64.6% of GDP. |

History: | UES's armed forces are known as the Ertoan Defence. The Minister of Defence is commander-in-chief of the Ertoan Defence, and serves as chief diplomatic official abroad. During peacetime, the Ministry of Defence employs around 78,000 in total.
