History: It all started with the battle of Oviedo in 1391 which led to a loss of the old kingdom in the region. We do not have many records on the battle but what we can be sure of is that Navara won. They commited war crimes in the name of god due to a heretical sect in the region creating a centuries long grudge. The kingdom was eventually subsumed into Castille and Leon after Navara was married into France. While this was happening, Santiago Pérez planned a rebellion in the region. In 1578 they blew up the local bridge in Cáceres and send in local volonteers. Specifically the 8th and 3rd division fighting against the 23rd, 12th and 13th division of the Spanish Army. They were able to corner the 23rd and 12th division of the Spanish beside the Jamara river and they either surrendered or were routed. While the 13th was routed by some local basque rebels. Wow you must be really bored reading all this huh? The Spanish had moved most of their troops to colonies to fight the Pueblo or the Morrocans or the French who took Carribean lands. Meanwhile Madrid had been surrounded and besieged by the Thorinian forces who miraculously were aided by the local guerrila rebels. The garrison in Madrid was weak as the king and his family were in the north on damage control. After the rats in Madrid looked scrawny they surrendered. Thus the Thorinians claimed to be the rightful kings of Spain and as they were in the Capet family were aided by France. The Forces were able to negotiate a peace where they had to give lots of land back and money but kept major forts and cities. After 2 years in power the kind dies and a cousin of his was chosen to succeed since the late king had no sons. The cousin was however a Habsburg and thus was murdered after 6 years and it was decided that they would use a system that the HRE used for succession. After this decision the nobles were appeased but the thing was that it meant there would be lots separatist movements and many factions in the aristocracyThe kingdom would be a neutral kingdom with many trade routes similiar to the dutch. The kindom would have a golden age with victims of the Spanish Inquisition desiring a return to their homeland, gaining an advantage in technology. In 1837 there was a civil war between the Alfonsian faction and the Madridian faction who supported different popes, kings, and policies they started a civil war. The Madridians wanted a highly religious constitutional monarchy like in England and believed isolationism would help the kingdom while the Alfonsians wanted the Status Quo. They fought in the battle of Bilbao with the 43rd, 22nd, and 17th divisions supported the Alfonsians while the 15th and 13th division fought for the Madridians. The Madridians bribed the 17th division with mostly Leonian troops into supporting the Madridians. However the Madridians were destroyed due to logistical and biological issues especially due to typhus. After which the Alfonsians won, but their candidate for the position of king of Spain was dead. After which a period of anarchy began. During the Peninsular war the kingdom survived by becoming vassals of the French and becoming governers while being basically kings but they still had internal conflicts. In The War of the Sixth Coalition they helped the French rebels and the Austrians, gaining independance and recognition without being partitioned or removed like San Marino. The kingdom continues. However the current king is of the House of Valois after the branch the former kings became infertile and ran out of male heirs Key word : MALE. After which a civil war happened with the conservative Valois Branch all in a vicious proxy war. The Valois won. There were two decisive battles that proved in their favor. The battle of Oviedo and the battle of Huesca. In the battle of Oviedo the Valois faction formed a pincer movement around the Parliamentarians who wanted a republic with no monarchy what so ever and caused the Parliamentarians to retreat into the hills where there were troops stationed to charge and ambushed the retreating forces or go onto a small local bridge which collapsed from the weight of hundreds of men.The other battle, the battle of Huesca was a testament to how effective mobilization was. In it the Valois faction was able to mobilize hours before the enemy and looted all the food and water. They also had mobilized much more artillery. The Valois faction took defensive positions and dug a trench. Once the Parliamentarians came they charged, their bravery more numerous then their naivity and blunderous they were. The Valois did lose the trench but some conceiled divisions counter charged the now unorganized looting troops. But the real kicker was that the artillery started shelling the enemy and they won but barely. The king decided that he would reconquer lost lands from a neighboring republic which had funded the Parliamentarians. The war was a quick and swift one, too quick to mention any battles and actually make it worth it but they had reconquered the cities of Burgos and Alicante. The king then died after some conspirators killed him out of anger after the war their people had lost and that the Spanish had won. The king had an heir a weak and vasilating one who really just leased lands for money not to the state but **personally to him** but had a good amount of trustworthy, loyal and smart nobles on his side to aid him. But 17 years later the king died from hitting a wall too hard after running into it claiming he saw visions of Saint Andrew. His heir however was shrewd and powerful. The man only 27 when he became king was Thorin. Thorin was able to realize that trade was an important factor and that globalization was inevitable and made The Republic of Nassau which was more like Nato but with less cohesion. The man was able to forge a golden age for his land and the rest is here with you and I deciding fate and domino effects.
