In the aftermath of the Second Weltkrieg France and Germany came together and agreed that neither side should own the land completely, and that instead it shall be ruled jointly. This agreement lasted for a few decades until 1995, when the German monarchy collapsed. France currently crippled by another syndicalist uprising failed to renew the diarchy treaty. Alsace Lorraine, now having lost it's masters, was taken over by Reichsstatthalter Karl von Witten. He then declared himself the King of Alsace Lorraine, a new independent nation in Europe. With his coronation he changed his family name to von Strassburg, in an attempt to connect him with the land he is to rule.
