2073 HK Election - Early Voting Begins in the General Election

Kowloon City, KLN. -  Early voting began on Sunday (May 21st) as the general election kicks off, with thousands of people across the nation of Hong Kong rushing to polls in order to place their votes.

There will be seven days of early voting. Over 250,000 voters have signed up to vote early, with polling stations opening at 9:30 am (0930 HKT) and closing at 9:30 pm (2130 HKT).

Chief Executive Brandon Lei, serving as the current and fifteenth Chief Executive of Hong Kong since 2068, is expected to place and cast his vote in the City of Victoria at around 10:30 am (1030 HKT) following a morning campaign speech. 

The formal opposition, the People's Progressive Movement, and their recently elected chairwoman, Zhong Ming, are expected to campaign in the north and provide a speech in Tai Po. 

The election could also show major gains of the recent far-right National Freedom Party, which are hoping to gain votes in the west.

However, recent polls show that the people are satisfied with the current Chief Executive, with surveys predicting the Reformed Social Democratic League will gain around 42% of the vote. The surveys also show that the People's Progressive Movement will receive around 30%, gaining 3% compared to last year's pre-election surveys.

To become a qualified voter, citizens will be required to show their information at the polling stations.
