On some fishing boat, Sea of Japan, Orbis
  “They’re refusing to surface.” one of the officers looks over to Izuma and the other guy. “Forcing them should be a last resort.” Izuma looks at her boss, completely out of her element, “Won’t Iwate fire if they don’t surface? The ACCDF is supposed to keep stuff away from our shores.” “They’re paranoid, rightfully so. All governments they had around them were either completely hostile or would have loved to make a quick buck off of them. They also didn’t have any contact to the outside world for 5 years. It’s understandable that they are cautious. I just fail to understand what’s causing them not to trust us.” One of the radio operators speaks to Izuma and the other man, “The Iwate is hailing us with a public Morse code transmission.” “Gently ask them to shut up.” “[.... -... / - --- / .. .-- .- - . --..-- / .--. .-.. . .- ... . / ... .... ..- - / - .... . / ..-. ..- -.-. -.- / ..- .--. .-.-.-]” “{..- -. -.. . .-. ... - --- --- -.. --..-- / ... - .- -. -.. .. -. --. / -.. --- .-- -.}” Izuma coughs. “I can see why you don’t have a partner, Jonah.” the officer sarcastically remarks. “Such a way with words.” “{-.-- --- ..- / --- .-- . / ..- ... / . -. --- ..- --. .... / ... .- -.- . / - --- / --. . - / - .... . / . -. - .. .-. . / -.-. .-. . .-- / .. -. . -... .-. .. .- - . -.. / -... . -.-. .- ..- ... . / --- ..-. / - .... .- - / -.-. ..- .-. ... . / .-- --- .-. -.. .-.-.-}” “And a handsome wallet too apparently.” Izume lets out a small giggle, and goes back to watching the radar.
Back on the sub, still The Sea of Japan, Orbis
“[.... ... --..-- / .... -... .-.-.- / .-- . / .. -. ... .. ... - / - .... .- - / -.-- --- ..- / ... ..- .-. ..-. .- -.-. . .-.-.-]” Kinoshita looks nervous, “What was the name of that ship that tried to hail us that wasn’t HB?” “ACHC Iwate.” Kinoshita freezes, “The… Iwate? That can’t be right.” “The prefix is not entered into our registry. We can’t surface unless we know who they are.” Kinoshita rushes over to the man, “Search for Iwate in the registry, not ACHC, just Iwate.” “The Iwate is a Japanese ship. If it flies under a different prefix, it’s best for us to assume it was captured or transferred.” Kinoshita looks at Atlas, worried. The submarine is pinged with active radar, a lot of it. “We just got pinged, admiral. It should be fine, we’re clinging to the bottom of the ocean but this is clearly an aggressive attempt.” Kinoshita is rubbing her ears, the radar hurts her ears, and Kino proceeds to clamp her hands over her ears as they are mercilessly pinged by radar from one of the assumed corvettes. “[.... ... --..-- / .... -... .-.-.- / .--. .-.. . .- ... . --..-- / ... ..- .-. ..-. .- -.-. . / .. -- -- . -.. .. .- - . .-.. -.-- .-.-.-]” “They can kiss my **s, I’M NOT SURFACING THIS DAMNED SHI- akh!” Atlas grabs his chest and falls over. He’s having a heart attack. Kinoshita shouts, “MEDIC, SOMEONE, SURFACE THIS SUB RIGHT F**KING NOW OR I WILL FEED YOU ALL TO THE FISHES!” Kinoshita is panicing.
The random Fishing Boat, Sea of Japan, Orbis
“The military vessels are using active sonar, sir.” a radio operator reports. The captain curses in various different languages, including his native Dragovitan. “They’re going aggressive.” Izuma raises her hand, awkwardly, “Sir?” “Kid?” “They keep saying S at the sub. I think? If they wanted targeting solutions, they would’ve gotten them ages ago” “Such pettiness from the Japanese fleet. Pitiful. Send another request.” Izuma rols her eyes as she sees one of the Kodama class ships ping the sub again, “All they’re going to do is give them ear damage.”” [.... ... --..-- / .... -... .-.-.- / .--. .-.. . .- ... . --..-- / ... ..- .-. ..-. .- -.-. . / .. -- -- . -.. .. .- - . .-.. -.-- .-.-.-]” A minute goes by before the Japanese pings show a clearly distinguishable object in the ocean. “Wait, they’re surfacing? I didn’t think it’d actually work.” “Sir, new message.” “[.... -... --..-- / .- - .-.. .- ... / .. ... / -.. --- .-- -. --..-- / .. / .-. . .--. . .- - / .- - .-.. .- ... / .. ... / -.. --- .-- -. --..-- / - .... .. ... / .. ... / .- -.-- .- / -.- .. -. --- ... .... .. - .- --..-- / --- ..-. / .... ... --..-- / .-- . / -. . . -.. / -- . -.. .. -.-. .- .-.. / ... ..- .--. .--. --- .-. - --..-- / -. --- .-- -.-.--]” “Language and typing style have changed, this is someone else.” “Let’s humour them. Holler the japs for a doc.” Izuma had frozen when she heard the name, “Wait, what was the operator’s name?” “Kino-shirt-a or something.” Izuma goes pale, “Wasn’t she the leader of a rebellion a good few years back? I was maybe 6? When it happened?” “8 or more. Time flies.” They see an Ajakon helicopter fly up, one of their multipurpose helis. Akimoto carefully jumps down onto the boat, “Hey there you all, I decided I’d muscle my way onto a helicopter if anything interesting happened.” “Well, you might have a dying Prime Minister to meet. I’m having a hard time believing it but the possibility is there.” “Dying? I brought Nanites and a couple of the best doctors I know, if he dies, it’s just sheer incompetency.” Akimoto sighs and steps to the front, “Is the sub fully surfaced?” “Give it a bit for the buoyancy to work itself out.” They wait a couple minutes, then the helicopter lands on a nearby Kodama and Akimoto and co. board the submarine.
