[DECLASSIFIED INFORMATION OF THE STATE OF MUNDUSIA]

General Information

Mundusia has an upper-middle income, a developing, mixed market economy based on the Mundusian Model of laissez-faire economics, and is highly industrialized. The largest sector of the economy is services, followed by industry, then agriculture. Estimated at Ꝁ$676 Billion, Mundusia has a relatively small economy compared to its counterparts which usually have an economy of > $1 Trillion. This is mostly because of the mentioned counterpart's initiative to international trade, which Mundusia has not been nearly as active in. 

Mundusia heavily relies on its domestic market along with government budget spending and actively turns away from international trade. This creates a situation in which Mundusia is not incredibly affected by global economics, but can be to an extent. 

While not being extremely affected by global economics, the economy is affected by the cultural bond of the populace. This is evident in the capital of Thies, which is considered the financial center of Mundusia. Domestically, however, it is considered an inter-cultural center due to its catering of different cultures - visible in electronic signs that line the buildings and walkways. Allowing more people to understand each other effectively led to the growth of the Mundusian economy and labour force.

History

After the Mundusian War, the nation went through a month of rebuilding infrastructure. The nation, which was an empire no less than a day before surrender, was now confined to a former colony as their core land. The pre-war Mundusian economy was estimated to be around Ꝁ$1.1 Trillion because of resource production, urbanization, and domestic earnings. The economy took a sharp decline, though, being reduced to barely Ꝁ$501 Billion - not  counting the eastern provinces - due to rapid demilitarization and land restrictions among other things. This induced widespread unemployment. 

It was estimated by several economic newspapers that Mundusia's economy would not survive. Some even suggested that Mundusia, if this continued, would collapse into anarchy. However, it did not receive global coverage due to irrelevancy of the state of Mundusia and the lack of information. Most examined Mundusia as entering another failed state era as well.

Instead, the opposite happened. Due to President George Zefvr's new policies as leader, the Mundusian economy revitalized itself in late 2095. The economic miracle, nicknamed "Smiter's Gift", effectively insured Mundusia's survival. Businesses, private farms, and communes were rapidly popping up all across the nation. Most of the money gained from this went to ensuring active military jobs for the unemployed, transportation, law and order, urbanization, and welfare. Resources and agriculture such as salt, millet, rice, corn, and fish among other things were cultivated. Natural gas was also found and is currently being drilled in the nation.

This created an unexpected result of rapid GDP growth based solely on domestic markets rather than being perpetually within the international trade market. Along with this, national businesses started to become multinational. This, however, was incorrectly associated with being a reason the Mundusian economy rose as it did. In early 2096, an economic census was taken by the government and revealed the Mundusian economy rose to Ꝁ$675 Billion - counting the eastern provinces as well, not just the western ones. Factories were finished being built within this time period as well, which further increased the Mundusian economy.

Thies, as of right now

After the creation of the Federal Democratic Republic in 2096, Eastern Mundusian provinces were finally opened to the public as republics. Their economic factors were also added to the official GDP calculations from then on. Current efforts for urbanization and the building of roads and highways are underway. The land is considered to be filled with opportunity.

Agriculture

Despite most of Mundusia's land area being part of the Sahel biogeographic region, meaning it has a hot steppe climate, the populace and the government has found a way to live in the region. Mainly, this is done by farming on private plantations and communes. Urbanization of largely underdeveloped regions have also attributed to the survival of people in the desert region. These infrastructure introductions have sufficiently saved the populace who have chosen to live on these plantations and communes from most threats to their livelihood. Methods of mass irrigation are also underway, such as the planning of artificial rivers.

In return, the plantations and communes give away at least 45% of their produce to their provincial government. This contributes to the agricultural sector, which is 20.4% of the total GDP. More western-based farmers (referring to the group of farmers who mostly farm around the Port of Dakar to where the Sahel region starts) don't worry about those problems, though. Easy access to irrigation also helps produce crops quicker. However, there is a variance between the possibility for produce to be cultivated. Mundusian-variant Tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, melons, cucumbers, and squash only grow in the Sahel regions, while sugar cane, cotton, peanuts, and fisheries are mostly found in western-based farms.

Livestock population includes over 12 million cattle, 4.2 million sheep, and 6 million lamb. Because of this significant livestock population, Mundusia does not need to rely on imported meat, which a large percent of the populace have come not to trust. A small population of 500,000 pigs also exists in the Thies-Dakar province. Dairy products and poultry are also produced. Around 3% of agricultural produce is actually put towards international trading efforts.

Industry

The industrial sector accounts for 30.6% of the Mundusian GDP. Around 7% of industrial products are put towards international trading efforts.

Energy & Mining

The land of Mundusia contains large amounts of previously untapped resources in most regions such as zircon, gold, and phosphate. These three main minerals are used to heighten the other industries of Mundusia such as engine production, electronics, and fertilizer, respectively. Iron, bauxite, and coal ore was recently found in eastern regions, which has led to steel production as a fledgling rising industry of Mundusia. Construction materials are also being produced with the resources mined.

Crude oil and natural gas extraction is also present in many western regions, despite being previously believed to have disappeared. The extraction of said resources have been important in keeping Mundusia's self-reliant. However, there are concerns that Mundusia will eventually run out of oil and gas and sellout. To combat this, several hydroelectric dams are in the process of being built and are expected to be complete no later than 2100.

These dams are cited to be built across the Senegal, Saloum, Geba, Casamance, and [CONFIDENTIAL] Rivers. 

Ship Construction and Repairs

Ship construction and repairs are quite frequent, but do not play majorly in the economy of Mundusia. Civilian ships are sometimes constructed for fishing purposes via commission of a civilian company with average prices of Ꝁ$1-200 million. The Port of Dakar is a frequent hotspot for this industry.

When civilian ships are damaged for any reason, they may come to any designated coastal area, let all passengers out, and repairs will be conducted. Average prices for repairs are Ꝁ$1-500 million, depending on the damage of course.

Military ships of the Mundusian Navy are also constructed and repaired free of charge using available items gained from previously mentioned resources and methods. However, military ships and repairs for the other countries of the world are strictly prohibited unless the situation is truly desperate. They must cleared first before entering the Port of Dakar.

Electronics

Mundusia has recently started to the process to create electronic devices. Unfortunately, due to a lack of silicon, Mundusia may have to open up to minimal trade to obtain the resource to create the superconductor required. In the meantime, electronic imports are Mundusia's largest imports.

Services

Tourism

The tourist industry of Mundusia is mainly centered around Thies and Dakar, most likely for its illustrious transport systems and beautiful night-time skyline. It has grown exponentially ever since the airline "International Air Mundusia" opened up.

Luxury Goods

Mundusia produces luxury goods such as jewelry, designer clothes, miniature statues, and cosmetics. Many tourists buy them either as a consumer item or a souvenir to keep.

Mass Media

The Mundusian film market is becoming increasingly popular world-wide and is expected to eventually surpass most countries and become the largest in such service category.

Household Income & Consumption

Mundusia's workers generate a general income of Ꝁ$13.25 per hour on average, which is enough to get rent for one day in most apartments along with a TV dinner meal. However, this statistic only applies to one person in a household. In a two-person household, the bread-maker of the family may have to work overtime so that all people may be fed.

In a three-person household, one to three bread-makers may be present. Same with a four-person household, suggesting that the fourth member is a newborn. This statistic ensures that most of the populace works instead of being lazy. In communes or plantations, the family may actually live and eat for free there in turn for their labor.

The homeless are found mainly in unurbanized areas

This may be the case for poor families or persons. However, those who do not work are oftentimes found homeless on the streets begging for money. Most likely, they are in debt and sometimes band together with other homeless to find work they can commit to. The rest are picked up by police when found and forced into either unpaid labor, homeless centers, or put in prison. The difference depends on the amount of time they have been like this.

According to recent reports, 50% of households had one person, 17.5% had two, 13.5% had three, and 19% had four or more. Of these households, 85% had a car, 79% had a mobile device, and 53% had internet connection in their home. The average consumption was Ꝁ$25,675. Housing was the highest consumed among the populace, followed by food/beverages, transport, recreation, and insurance.

Unemployment

The unemployment rate in Mundusia is 6.57%. The employment rate, though, is 65.2%. For those who are unemployed, programs are underway to help them obtain a job and contribute to their nation instead of being homeless. For the youth, summer programs about learning basic economics and labor policies will be instated when needed. The aim of this is to help the youth when they grow up to find their way and specialization.

Mundusian Model

The Mundusian Model is a system of laissez-faire economics that strays away from the traditional definition. In summary, the Mundusian Model allows for the periodic stimulation of the economy to ensure a constant state of rising. International trade is not thoroughly invested into, but, instead, domestic-made products are the ones widely used in stores. Meanwhile, protectionist policies and regulations along with faux-mercantilism shield the economy from outside influence unless absolutely necessary to allow internationality in the market.

The Model also advocates for a comprehensive welfare state and mostly private land ownership. This allows plantations to be made without licenses (as long as the land is owned by the person in question) and universal healthcare service for the youth all the way up to the elderly. It also works towards poverty reduction and social equality along with cultural and religious tolerance - as evident in cities like Thies and Dakar.

The Model itself was created, developed, and implemented by President George Zefvr in his efforts to save the Mundusian economy. It is also the official economic system of the QW-Korps, the National Front, and the Democratic-Republicans.

Taxation

In most of Mundusia, a progressive income tax is used taxing the rich more than the poor - with the exception of the province of Zefvreste which uses a flat tax of 35%. The money gained is then redistributed to the populace with jobs. The poorest are taxed 10%, while the richest are taxed nearly 40%.
