Cabinet Minister Bentham is stepping down from his position as the Minister of the Interior, after serving as the Minister for 7 years. Over that time, Mr. Bentham has enacted major policy reforms, and in conjunction with the Ministry of Economics, has established a large portion of what Centuria's current financial system is. In a press conference, held today at the Central Building, Press Secretary Janet Whites stated that Mr. Bentham, at 63, was feeling the pressures of age, and would be retiring from service within the Centurian government. When CCNN Political Correspondent Ulman Fielding inquired as to whether or not Mr. Bentham would remain in the public eye, he received this response:

“Mr. Bentham is departing from the Centurian government, and will not be in any government operated programs, and we have not been informed of any plans for the near future, however, this does not preclude anything.”

Our team at CCNN would like to extend our gratitude to Mr. Bentham for his 7 years of service, under 2 Presidents. We wish him well with his future endeavors.

Changes In The Cabinet:

As Mr. Bentham's departure has left a position open in the Cabinet, some changes have occurred. Currently, we have not had the opportunity to have a press conference on this matter, and as we have only been able to collect information from the official government announcement, we would like to apologize for the lack of clarification in some areas.

As announced at 12:53 pm, on the 28th of July, Minister of Economics, Thomas McCartney has been appointed as the new Minister of the Interior. Due to Minister McCartney's key involvement in the rollout of reforms and modernization in Centuria, it is clear why they were selected for the position. Mr. McCartney is yet to give an address, however, one has been scheduled within the following week, this article will be updated when the address is publicized.

Following the previous announcement, a second announcement was publicized, at 1:07 pm, on the same day, which stated that following Mr. McCartney's appointment as the MoI, Hunter Melloway, a recent upstart, has been appointed as the new Minister of Economics. Prior to this appointment, Mr. Melloway was serving as the ‘Director of International Economics', where they have been instrumental in the rollout of critical aid packages to allied nations. There has been some concern from the public as to Mr. Melloway's qualifications for the position, and it has been reported that President Heron is planning an additional address to discuss the matter.

What's in store for the future of Centuria? While the changes seem extraordinarily drastic, CCNN Political Analysts Jenna Munroe and Jordan Hazelwood have reason to believe that there will not be any major changes to the policies of the nation, see the following:

  • Centacare - Policy rolled out by the Ministry of the Interior, Mr. McCartney was partly responsible for this program's creation, and has been publicly in favor of it since its inception.
  • Social Development Act - As an Executive Policy, following its rollout, the Cabinet has no power to repeal this act.
  • Centurian Tax Plan - Currently, no new taxation plans have been announced, however, in a comment made by Mr. Melloway to the Capital Times, Mr. Melloway is very much ‘… in favor of the current taxation policies. We are still working closely with Minister McCartney to ensure that in this time of change, our economy remains strong …'

Update - 5/08/63

The new Minister of the Interior, Thomas McCartney released the following statement in regards to the administrative changes:

"This change has been long since planned for. I've worked closely with Mr. Bentham in a wide array of matters, and the change has had almost unanimous support. As I have spent many months developing the current programs with Mr. Bentham, I would like to assure the citizens of Centuria that their future with our programs is safe.

As for Mr. Melloway, I have worked closely with him for several years now, and I am very satisfied with the descision to appoint him to the position, and I look forward to working with him in the future with cooperation between our Ministries. I won't divulge too deep into the matter of qualification, President Heron is scheduled for an address specifically on that matter…
