Basics of Foreign Affairs

  • Foreign Affairs, also known as FA, is a department of an alliance’s government that focuses on the external aspects of the alliance.
  • Foreign Affairs works towards setting up the alliance diplomatically with other alliances. They also handle negotiations whether they are for peace, treaties, and etc.
    • Setting Up Embassies
      • Setting up embassies with other alliances is the first step to establishing basic relations with other alliances. It’s a chance for you to get to know the other alliance's gov, and a chance for them to know your gov if they return the favour (do note that some alliances may refuse to create an embassy if your alliance isn’t notable in any capacity).
    • Treaties
      • Whether you are a new alliance, or an established alliance, you are going to need allies to defend you. FA will go out and try to either find a protector if the alliance is small or sign a formalized MDP or MDoAP treaty with another alliance or sphere. It’s always best to go after alliances/spheres that you have a good relationship with or one’s where their politics match with yours.
    • Negotiations
      • When it comes down to peace deals or treaties, there is always negotiation involved so that both parties are satisfied with the terms.
    • Treaties
      • Treaty Negotiations already have a set framework with terms like 72 hour notices, intelligence sharing, mutual defense, and etc. There’s not much work to be done with setting up terms, but you should make sure that those terms are in the treaty.
    • Peace Negotiations
      • When negotiating for peace, terms will be imposed based on the success/failure of the war. If your alliance is on the winning side, then FA will have a bit of leeway to impose some terms. If your alliance is on the losing side, then FA will have to accept some terms they don’t like. There are some lines that should never be crossed such as imposing disbandment of alliances, treaties, and/or spheres will make said alliance's reputation look bad and will most likely get them rolled for it. A good idea is to look at peace terms of the past to have a good grasp of how peace terms work in the game.
  • To start your FA department, you will want someone who knows the politics well, is willing to engage in conversations with others, and has a reputation of being competent. You’ll then want to setup an area to host embassies whether on your alliance discord server or somewhere else. After that, you’ll need to introduce yourself to your allies or your protector's allies and eventually to other spheres.
  • When it comes to FA gov, you really only need a succession line for FA gov. FA will usually have a team of members to talk in embassies to your alliance with FA low gov and mid gov.
