History: | The Great United Russia arose as a result of a long and complex process of unification of Russian lands around Moscow. This process began at the end of the XIII century and continued until the XV century. At the beginning of the XIV century, the Moscow Principality began to strengthen and gain strength. Thanks to the competent policy of the local princes and building relations with the Golden Horde, Moscow has become the most powerful unifying center in northeastern Russia. The victory at Kulikovo Field in 1380 finally established Moscow as the only center of unification of lands and principalities in the northeast of the former Kievan Rus. The second stage of unification began in the 80s of the XIV century and lasted until 1462. During this period, Moscow continued to fight with other Russian principalities and the Golden Horde.
