He was crowned in the great cathedral of San Cristóbal, where the high archbishop placed a silvered crown upon his head, proclaiming him “Defender of the Faith and the People.” His marriage to Queen Isabel of the noble Soria family cemented the ties between faith and politics, as Isabel’s family were fierce protectors of the Church.
