The duchy of Hage was created in 1103 after the then lord of Limburg, Ferdinand of Limburg gave a piece of land to Falkmar von Hagen I. For serving him as a soldier for 73 years



-Independence: (1342-1370)
In 1342, the land finally broke free from the Limburgs under Friedrich von Hagen III. Sparking the long rivalry between the families 



-creation of the duchy: (1444)

In a masterpiece of diplomacy, Alexander von Hagen I. United with five other holy Roman states to form the duchy of Hage in 1444.


 

-Expansion into Iberia: (1528)
After a few backs and forwards, the family married together with the family of the aragonese city of gijon, thus making it their territory.



-reign over the Holy Roman Empire: (1583-1620)
Alexander von Hagen IV. Was the first holy Roman emperor of the family, reigning from 1583 to 1608.
