Chapter One - A Bright Future
Following the collapse of Canada, residents in the region looked for stability. After deliberation by the the different town and city authorities in the region, in the year 2102, the nation of Almuria was formed. Named after Mount Alm, the fledgling nation bravely pressed forth into the unknown, beginning with establishing a government. A referendum was held between a parliamentary system, similar to that of Canada, or a new hybrid regime, where and individual would be elected for life. After the collapse, the hybrid regime seemed popular, but lost the vote to a two thirds majority against the hybrid regime. With the establishment of the parliament in Azradale, the first Prime Minister would be Andrew Talbot, a right leaning pragmatist who promised to set Almuria up for success. The new government now had to set up a constitution for its citizens, with its most interesting points being voting rights for all aged 16 or older, never allow the state to run a financial deficit unless certain specified extreme events come to be, and the right to declare the government incapable through a popular vote of 75 percent.
Chapter Two - The First Parliament
Almuria's first parliament, lead by Prime Minister Andrew Talbot, initially had no party affiliations. The 120 seat parliament was created from independent candidates in all ridings, where Prime Minister Talbot was elected by the members. But factions in the government formed when different policy blocs came to a standoff with each other. Three main factions formed, those who supported the Prime Minister became part of the Federalist Assembly, a center-right party with right-libertarian policies, the left wing politicians established the Progressive Coalition, a self proclaimed socialist party, and the right wing politicians formed the Nationalist Front, a far-right coalition. These 3 parties had various levels of support with the Federalist Assembly holding 47% of the popular vote, the Progressive Coalition had 36%, and the Nationalist Front had 17%. The leaders of each party were Andrew Talbot for the Federalist Assembly, Rosanne Trina for the Progressive Coalition, and Russel Fulke for the Nationalist Front. The First Parliament would set the nation up for success, and set it on its way to become a global power.
Chapter Three - Fledgling Diplomacy
New to the international community and in search of recognition, Almuria reached out to The Fighting Pacifists and their sister alliance The Armed Peacekeepers for protection and guidance while they grow as a regional power. As Almuria holds a strong policy of zero non-provoked aggression, TFP and TAP ended up being the clear choice forward as their policies mirrored that of the Almurian nation. After an inspection of the nations potential, Almuria was admitted to the alliance and given training from allied diplomats, economists, and generals on how to conduct their affairs. This being said, international cooperation does not come without great change. Almuria is now to meet certain requirements to secure their place in the alliance such as a complete overhaul of their production lines, power grids, and military. These changes will be facilitated by a generous grant from TFP for the purposes of establishing a strong economy and defensive force. In addition to the domestic changes, TFP requires it member states to send its military on recovery expeditions to loot the ruins of long dead civilizations to help cover costs at home. Prime Minister Talbot said that "Almuria is destined for great things with the help of our new found Allies in The Fighting Pacifists and The Armed Peacekeepers." |
