Terrain: | Franklin is a nation defined by its mountains, as its outside and county borders largely follow those ranges. The highest of these peaks lie on Franklin's eastern border, including Clingman's Dome, Roan Mountain, and Mount Le Conte, all three of which top out above 6,000'. Many of these ridges lie within the Great Smoky Mountains Governor's Park, a 300,000 acre national park which attracts roughly 16M foreign tourists annually. The park is home to numerous government sites, including a bunker system large enough to accommodate 2/3 of Franklin's population and all of the nation's missile silos. Many smaller ranges run through the region north-to-south, under which are many road tunnels, over which are legendary mountain roads, and between which run Franklin's high speed rail lines. These ranges divide the state into 8 distinct geographic regions, each of which has a unique culture and economy. Roughly 1/5 of Franklin's population dwell in homes in hollows in or directly on these mountains, as many families historically relied on them for work. Between these ridgelines snake many rivers and creeks, too. These originate from those eastern mountains, but are fed by streams flowing from the hollows between sub-ridges. The Holston, Nolichucky, and French Broad rivers are the largest in the country, each of which were made navigable to small cargo barges in the 1820s, when the shallowest points of the rivers were dug out. This navigability was interrupted in the 1930s, when the government began construction of hydroelectric dams across the country. These 7 dams and lakes drive much tourism to the country and are trafficked by countless ferries and Franklin's naval forces. |

Description: | The Frankline economy is a highly diversified and highly developed economy built upon the historic pillars of agriculture, the railroad, and banking. Franklin, first an agrarian economy, lies at the crossroads of the USA, the CSA, and the nation of Texas, and has long been an important transportation hub, a status it has exploited from its inception. In 1822, the Frankline government sponsored the creation of the Appalachian-Tennessee Railway (AP&TN), which connected Franklin's far corners and the states on each side of them, and outside entities payed millions to use it. This drove Franklin's rapid development until the Civil War, during which hundreds of millions of dollars were poured into Franklin's banks for safe-keeping. Franklin retains its banking-hub status today with low tax rates on interest income. Throughout the late 19th century, Franklin began to urbanize (though it remains largely rural), with the population centers of Johnson City, Bristol, Kingsport, Maryville, and Morristown emerging as manufacturing centers. Today, the manufacturing of steel, arms, and medical equipment dominate the sector. Tourists, too, seeking the nation's natural beauty contribute a large percentage of the nation's economy, as does healthcare, though this share is smaller than any of Franklin's neighbors'. These sectors, with a few others, combine with government spending for a total GDP of 87.841B FLP (Franklin Pounds, 154.992B USD), and a GDP per capita of roughly 84,500 FLP (149,200 USD), making the nation the world's wealthiest by this metric (with a population of more than 1,000,000). |

History: | The armed forces of the Nation-State of Franklin are comprised of 6 branches: The Continental Army, founded in 1787 by Governor John Sevier, when he organized the state's various militia groups into one defensive fighting-force; the Inland Naval Fleet, founded in 1809 to patrol the nation's state's lakes and rivers in response to Native American attacks on these bodies; The Expeditionary Force, founded in 1813 in response to the War of 1812, when war between Britain and the United States disrupted supply lines, forcing Franklin to develop the ability to outwardly project both naval and land power; The Franklin Intelligence Bureau, launched in 1846 to covertly monitor the Mexican-American War, though it has grown to include several special force fighting units; The Frankline Air Corps was founded in 1914 primarily as a scout service, though it quickly grew to include mass-transport and top-tier fighting units, with their F-44 "Stag" being regarded by many as the world's finest fighter jet; The Interstellar Defense Force, founded in 2017, to protect domestic, and develop the ability to destroy enemy, satellites, and to deploy strategic weaponry where it can be deployed largely undetected. Though it is currently a segment of the FIB, Franklin's Cyber-Security Force is a rapidly developing unit focused on both offensive and defensive online operations, and is widely regarded as the world's finest cyber-warfare fighting force. |
